Biography
|
When Demeter awoke there was nothing but stone, water, and sun. The other gods milled about, having already done their part to form the new world. As he brought himself to his feet, grass and sprouts emerged from the ground under his claws, although fire spouted under his neck, it burned nothing and only brought life. The other gods grew alerted to his presence and an excited chatter filled the air as Demeter began to figure out how to use his legs. As more foliage appeared beneath him he ran more and more, and he only kept going. He ran across all of the earth, only being unable to spread the beauty of life and fertility to the highest peaks of the mountain and the lowest depths of the earth. But over time, they would creep their way in there somehow. As the ground became filled with verdure, Demeter took to the sky. His wings spread and he flew around the earth, the strongest of the plants who were on the ground wished only to be with him, and began to stretch as far as they could upwards to meet him. These plants became the strong trees that fill the earth to this day, awaiting Demeter to come and prance among their branches. The other younger plants, patient and wise, awaited Demeter to come down from the skies. These are the grasses that dragons have tread upon for millenia. Some began to grow but stopped on the way to provide shelter as shrubs and bushes for creatures to live inside. The ivies were so very impatient to see Demeter once again that they scaled great cliff sides only to realize that they could not grow once they’d reach the top. Once life had spread across the earth, the young god needed his rest. Demeter glided to the soft grasses as he began to sleep. As always, life began to sprout around him, tall trees provided privacy and food. Shrubs filled the gaps in between the trunks of the trees so that the cool night air would not enter the warm clearing. Grass provided the softest bedding that a dragon could ever wish for and Demeter slept. This holy place would forever be known as the Viriditam Glade. Forever, he would be hailed as the god who brought life and fertility to the great earth. |
