Biography
Perseus Conquest | Betrayal | Love The God-slayer Everyone creates their own monsters |
~ Perseus was born the day his kind was driven to the brink of extinction. All throughout the land the ruthless gods struck down every Hero that stood in their way. They were merciless. Screams and wails were the first sounds that greeted the poor hatchling’s ears as he emerged from his egg into the cold night. All around him, death and pain were on rampage. His brothers and sisters that he would never know disappeared into the night, caught up in the midnight ride of Hades. The shouts of his aunts and uncles transformed into the shriek of birds and beasts, as Artemis fired her magical arrows rumored to turn any dragon it touched into a dumb beast. Zeus himself wrestled with Perseus’ own father, the sounds of their battle heard from miles away. But the gods were unstoppable that night, and Valor disappeared into the blackness just as the rest of the clan of Heros. When the Olympians rumaged through the rubble looking for treasure and weapons, they were astonished to find a little Hero, hidden inside a stone cleft, wailing for attention. Fate was on the side of Perseus that day. Instead of ending him right there, the gods decided to raise him as an Olympian, train him as a warrior, and use him as a pawn. ~ As Perseus grew, it was clear that he had the best qualities of a Hero embedded into his character. When sparring with his teachers, he refused to strike when his opponent was on the ground or weaponless. None of the gods could persuade the young warrior to give up his diet of fruits and vegetables for tasty meat. He was a quick learner, always eager to ask questions and delve deeper into a matter. To better control the curious skydancer, the gods admitted that he was a Hero, but twisted the story to better fit their needs, saying that the Heros sold him to slavers, but the gods rescued him. The naive hatchling accepted this story with sadness but a new sense of loyalty to his masters. As time passed, the gods began sending him on Quests, letting him take care of their dirty work and calling it bravery. But Perseus’ Quests served him more than the gods knew. With each monster he defeated, his popularity with the common folk grew, and soon his reputation reached the ears of the Olympians. They were outraged, and decided to get rid of him. Rumor had been floating around of a skydancer that lived in the North who had Hero blood in her veins, but by no means was a Pure breed. The gods snatched the opportunity immediately. Calling in their apprentice, the gods bestowed devout Perseus with his Graduation Quest. “Go to the North and defeat this witch who is threatening to overthrow us and raid our kingdom. When you return, you will be a true Olympian, and may join our ranks.” The eager warrior quickly sharpened his sword, revieved his blessing, and set off to kill a dragon who may have been the last dragon with Hero blood other than himself. ~ Perseus arrived in a village close to the witch’s cave. The townsfolk welcomed him gladly, saying that the monster of his Quest was killing innocents and stealing their herds. Enraged, Perseus set off towards the cave, but not before the villagers had warned him that if any living thing stared into any of the many eyes of the witch, they would be turned to solid stone. Arriving at the cave, Perseus roared out his challenge into the darkness, daring the witch to come out and meet him. Hearing her approach, Perseus used his shield as a mirror, and was instantly taken aback by her beauty. Nothing in his training had prepared him for this, yet he steeled himself and demanded to know why she was terrorizing the nearby village. ~ The “witch” revealed to him that she actually was no magic dabbler, and didn’t even know a simple spell. As for her supposed murderous and thieving deeds, they were the result of a wild monster called the Manticore. The skydancer’s name was Medusa, and she entreated Perseus to help her defeat the monster plaguing the village. He agreed, amazed that the gods had sent him to challenge and kill this beautiful and unselfish dragoness that only wished to help the common folk. Between Medusa’s strategic plans and Perseus’ brawn, they easily trapped the blood thirsty monster that had been the true cause for the villager’s distress. But as soon as Perseus ended the monsters life, it transformed into Ares, the god of war! Perseus was bewildered as he realized the gods were really cruel, savage creatures and the Heros were the victims all along. He fled far away with Medusa into the mountains, determined to set things right. His new purpose of life was to destroy the masters he once slaved under and turn the kingdom into a peaceful, prosperous land. With the help of Medusa, he would raise up a new line of Heros, educated in their history and trained to fight honorably. The gods sought to crush Perseus and his new mate while they hid in the mountains, but thankfully, they two were able to stay just out of their reach. One day, they would be strong enough to fight back and bring justice to all.
