____An ancient Plagueborn Spiral, Galatea was one of the Plaguebringer’s most trusted researchers. Even for a dragon close to the Plaguebringer’s inner sanctum, she gained a reputation for being ruthless and calculating. Among strangers, her warm smile and cheerful eyes welcomed them into the lion’s den. Those who knew better knew her to be a master manipulator. Despite her hard work and discoveries in the laboratory, she would never lift a claw to do anything else. Young dragons would stumble over each other to help and impress her, even if it meant risking their lives. But she was never satisfied. The only life that had any real value to her were the lives of virus and bacteria cultures. ____Even outside of her thorough studies, she did everything with unfaltering grace and confidence. She viewed morality and companionship as worthless concepts invented by those who were too weak to survive on their own. While she would never openly betray the Plaguebringer, her primary motivation in life was to surpass the gods. She was confident that she was the only one who knew how to end the war between the eleven flights, and to usher dragonkind into a new, prosperous era. |

____Galatea’s potential was evident from the moment of her hatching, as an exceptional amount of elemental energy flowed through her. While she wasn’t as strong as the Mirrors in her clan, she surpassed them in magical ability and intelligence. Elder clan members trained her from an early age to join the Plaguebringer’s ranks. When she was still a hatchling, her clan chose her to be exalted to her god. ____Simultaneously, her ego inflated and her insecurity ate away at her, as older exalted dragons mistreated her out of envy. She ignored the distraction until it began to interfere with her work. One by one, she eliminated the problems by infecting them with lethal diseases of her own creation. Because the disease researcher position had such a high mortality rate, she was never suspected of the murder of her colleagues. ____Against the odds, she survived for thousands of years, making countless breakthroughs in disease development. But she kept her most significant project a secret, even to the Plaguebringer herself. Utilizing the resources and knowledge she gathered over millennia, she developed what she named the ‘Godkiller Virus’. It was a microscopic entity alchemized from the most deadly substances on Sornieth, a sliver of the Shade, and potent Plague magic. ____With her uniquely high position in the Plague flight, she was able to procure a sample of the Plaguebringer’s DNA to test the virus on. she performed test after test, and the result was always the same. The DNA would deteriorate, but not enough to overcome a god’s natural ability to reform. She believed the only way to complete her creation was to obtain a shard of rock from the bottom of the Wyrmwound. But the only dragon capable of reaching into the depths was the Plaguebringer herself. ____Her end goal farther out of reach than ever, and her reaching the end of her lifespan, she desperately needed a way to preserve and continue her work. The solution to her problem fell into her lap one day, when one of the eggs she planned to use for experimentation hatched. She raised the Skydancer to be her successor, convinced that she would not live to see the fruition of her life’s work. But her apprentice exceeded her expectations, and suggested a way to keep her alive long enough to witness the death of the gods. ____Galatea agreed to be encased in nevermelting ice and used as a host for Olwen’s own creations. Alive and conscious, her cells were mutated by thousands of individual viruses and fungus cells over decades of experimentation. Unknown to all, even its creator, the organisms thriving inside of her began to take over her brain, forming its own separate consciousness. It dreams about its eventual escape, so that it may spread its control across the world. |
