The Fallen Sister
Mesmur and her sister, Mellaniphe, were first to oppose the two destructive demigods. Sent by Lifebreather himself, the two favored dragons held a bond that could never be broken. Upon their arrival to the Dark Ones' lair, the Sisters demanded the end to their dark deeds. The Dark Ones laughed at the Sisters' orders and refused.
At this, they battled. Mellaniphe and Mesmur were strong, and they able to hold their own against the Dark Ones. That was until Treasonholder used his deceptive ways to make the Sisters think he had fallen. When Mesmur approached him, the Treasonholder struck her through the chest with a cursed blade. As she fought the Shade eating away at her soul, Mellaniphe cried for her sister. The Dark Ones laughed at the Sisters as they wallowed together. "Go," Mesmur told her sister. "Tell the Lifebreather of how I have fallen. There is no use in trying to save me." With tears in their eyes, the Sisters parted. Mesmur distracted the Dark Ones with her desperate attempts to keep fighting, while Mellaniphe slipped away in defeat.
As the Shade seeped into her, Mesmur's pain grew. It burned her very soul away until it was all that she felt. The Fallen Sister stopped resisting. The darkness dissipated, and Mesmur was left as nothing more that a whisper of who she once was. She felt nothing. She scraped a claw against her scales and did not feel a thing. She looked to the Dark Ones, nothing but hollowness in her eyes. "You are an example," they told her. "This is what happens when you try to fight back."
Mesmur looked at herself. Her scales darkened and discolored. She felt no sorrow or anger, no hunger or thirst. All of her magical abilities had been stripped from her, and she was nothing more than a soulless husk.
After she was tossed aside like scraps of meat, Mesmur crawled deep beneath the Earth. Deeper than any mine. There, the Fallen Sister rests alone with nothing but vague memories of the sister she once loved more than anything.
