Honeycomb has worked with plants for as long as she can remember, and probably a bit longer before that. She’d spend all the daylight hours she could spare in the Clan’s gardens, tending to the flora contained within with great care. It was her sanctuary, a place where no pain or conflict could reach.

As she got older, things stopped seeming quite as idyllic. There were Beastclans to contend with, rival Flights, the Shade. She hadn’t noticed in her youth how often Clan members would come home injured, or weakened. She fretted beside them, was relieved when they recovered, devastated when they didn’t, and that was all she could do…

…No.

There had to be something else.

She pored over books on herbology, on medicine, on anything that might help them. Following what she read to the letter, refusing to give up for an instant even despite realizing early on she wasn’t exactly in her element, metaphorically speaking. As the ills and injuries became more dire and complex, the cures became more impossible and more obscure.

Until finally, one day, taking a walk to clear her head, Honeycomb returned to the little sanctuary, slowly beginning to diminish as she found less time to take care of it. It’d been days since her last visit, and she’d spent more time immersed in issues of dead or illustrated plants to concern herself with real ones.

Perhaps that was why the illustrations to those impossible medicines seemed to follow her into the garden.

The same tiny, unassuming flowers, growing in the shadow of other, flashier fare, that had been penned down who knows how long ago, the same ones that required as many years to cultivate as Honeycomb had spent in this little corner of the world.

Panacea was staring her right in the face.

It was the renewed resolve, a result of this new discovery, on Honeycomb’s part that returned her Clan to the idealized state she’d believed it to be in all that time ago. The little sanctuary is not so little now, a flourishing place where injured dragons come to be healed. Honeycomb no longer worries for the fates of those around her, for she knows that with her skilled hands and the fruits-er, flowers- of her labour, she cannot fail.
