Alai heard voices. He didn't understand why or where they came from. He couldn't make them out too well, not at first, but if he concentrated really hard he could hear them say strange things like "Lair tabs when?" "Lair cleanout, unbred gen ones..." "...on the auction house for 75,000 treasure, ping me if you'd rather pay in gems." Other dragons didn't believe him when he talked about it. They thought he was crazy, so he learned to stop talking about it, even though the whispers still plagued him. He felt alone. Maybe he was crazy. But one day he met a strange fae dragon who took interest in him for some reason, started asking him questions. He was hesitant to admit it at first, but he was an honest dragon, and so eventually told her about the voices. She didn't think he was crazy. She told him about Naomi, and how she thought he was a descendant. She wanted him to go with her and join her little clan, all of whom were Naomi descendants and were special like him. They were strange, and a little dark, but... the temptation to be with people like him, who would value him as special instead of condemn him as crazy, was just too much. He followed them. Over time he noticed how dark they were and became uneasy. He doesn't believe they should be so doom and gloom. They paired up with Arenji followers, ones called The Chosen, and together they went around and were honestly very.... cruel. Heartless. He doesn't like that. He doesn't believe following Arenji needs to be so dark and violent. He takes a more positive approach, but.... well, he finds himself hiding his true feelings again. He doesn't want to be kicked out... or worse. He's a little afraid. But they still value him as a fellow descendant, and sometimes he thinks that's the only thing keeping him safe.
