Eldoris

The mist curled into the cool air, the winds teasing it far above the surface of the sea of a thousand currents. A small hatchling slipped from the edge of a bamboo platform and tumbled through the air to land on the cliffs above the sea. His elemental powers meant he made it, but looking down into the thick soup or water and atmosphere above crashing waves seemed to make him more cautious... well almost. Because he began to climb down. Tendrils of mist had almost obscured his small(ish) form when large claws grabbed hold of him, and beating wings thrust the mist violently away.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

Eldoris looked at his father, who was normally very easy going. In fact the Ridgeback had been saying goodbye to his mother as she was returning home with her hatchlings. After a confused moment he replied, "I just wanted to see the water."

"You were climbing into the water. Ridgebacks don't like water."

The hatchling studied his father and then studied his own claws and ridges and shiny blue scales (all 2.68 m of them) and surmised, "I'm a Ridgeback." A toothy grin and he added, "And I want to touch it!"

Shaking his head Danny finally replied in a mutter, "At least the sea isn't bordered by cliffs and wind storms in the Tangled Wood." Clutching the wayward hatchling firmly he beat his wings, carrying the child back to his mother, "You can look at it from the air. As we fly over. On your way home." Then he was his mother's problem. Liking water indeed!
