Biography

War Leader. Council of Six. Mated to Shredder.

Farming Team #2, teammates: Destroyer and Brutal.

Spindle's Beginning

Spindle was a steady young dragon, not given to tricks, or games, or fanciful storytelling. When she asked a question, she expected a straight answer – and straight answers were rare in the Tangled Wood. Her Clan said her Tundra ancestry showed through in her simple ways, even though she’d been hatched as a Shadow dragon just like her brother and sister.

However much steadiness she possessed, like all young ones she was she was curious, willful, and too bold for her own good. Lacking any other sources of information, she began exploring the out of the way places and long forgotten corners of the Foxfire Bramble and letting her keen senses give her the answers that weren’t to be found during nights in the lair when one tall tale tried to outdo another in turn until sleep and dreams found them all.

This was how Spindle wound up finding the trove of books and scrolls in an especially thick brambled wall. From the little she could make out some of them were ancient sacred texts, some not even Dragonish! She instantly felt these must be hidden away again. The Shadowbinder had already spoiled one such source of understanding in the Forum of the Obscured Crescent, Spindle feared such things would not be treated carefully in the Tangled Wood and given to sages to pore over and extract knowledge from, instead, as soon as She heard about them, the order would come to destroy them. It seemed their deity did not relish the search for knowledge that was common in other regions, here fact and fiction were one and the same and the only value stories held were to entertain, She was to be the only arbiter of truthfulness.

That very day Spindle announced to her Clan that she’d be seeking a new flight to call him. Though they were going to miss her, none were very surprised. She had odd ways for a Shadow dragon and even when she was just a hatchling it had been clear she would fit in better and be more content with a different group of dragons. The fact that the pack she eventually took with her held just as many musty old papers as it did dried strips of traveling food just confirmed what many of her fellows had long known to be true – whatever Spindle was destined to do with her life, it would not occur in the Tangled Wood.

As she left the depths of the Foxfire Brambles for the last time, Spindle was able to make out a bit more of the information in her old tomes. Although uncertain as to what it all meant, and unable entirely to read some of the scrolls that appeared to have been written by Longnecks, she became sure her destination must be the Viridian Labyrinth. Many references to Nature being “the All” and claims that all deity names were simply aspects of that same All convinced her that answers to the mystery she had stumbled upon must lie there. Spindle felt her steps lighten as she thought of an upbeat hymn to the Behemoth – she realized she wasn’t nervous at all, for the first time since she was a hatchling Spindle felt hopeful of her future again.
