One of the very few dragons who actually hatched at Home, Rustin is also a Dark Sclera dragon. These dragons are extremely rare, and little is known about them. Folklore surrounding them state that they are born directly of the Shade, not dragons at all but demons, puppets sent to torture regular dragons living in Flights. Whether or not you believe these rumours to be nonsense, Rustin knows that he is different from other dragons, and his magical powers are extremely strong, approaching the levels of Primal dragons. Those who subscribe to the more traditionalist views of looking at dragons of his background tend to look at him one of two ways: his fellow shade-touched think he's a cowardly traitor who refuses to embrace his heritage, and normal dragons think he's a demon who can't be trusted. Rustin tends to be rather naive and doesn't often understand the finer points of social life outside his family. He refuses to lay down and succumb to the "demonic" fate assigned to him. Studious and typically quite cheerful, Rustin loves learning about how "normal" dragons tick. He easily becomes very excited when learning about even ordinary things, and will gladly try everything at least once - even (and sometimes especially) if the thing he's trying is dangerous. Rustin is a very friendly dragon and is rarely seen without a smile on his face, but he doesn't allow many dragons to get truly close to him and keeps his circle of close friends very small. He only has four very close friends: Seb, Joe, Vedis, and Rikr, who all value his cheerful and knowledgeable personality. Though he has immense struggles with empathy, relating to other dragons, and so on, when he's not thinking too hard about being a good, normal dragon Rustin is one of the friendliest dragons you'll ever meet (he's the bane of Home's pranksters because he's genuinely too nice to prank or insult. You can hand him a joke can designed to shoot confetti in the air or something foolish like that and he'll just be like 'hah, someone forgot to put the food in this can! Easy mistake to make, I guess.'). Friendly to a fault, he tends to assume similar intentions in others and often doesn't get it right away when someone is being rude to him. Rustin worries deeply about keeping up appearances and tends to hold himself to an extremely high standard and judge himself very harshly. Despite everything, he is known around Home as a cheerful and charismatic dragon who is knowledgeable about a great many things and always happy to sit down for a chat.
