A wild dragon that was convinced to join up with the clan, Markatu still retains much of his habits of the wild, much to the fear and irritation of everyone else. In the wild, he had grown accustomed to dealing with the beastclans as equals, and had developed a rapport with the local beastclans, through which he obtained many unusual foods and goods. Even today, Markatu has a taste for beastclan cookery, and will ask that the Solstice Merchants bring him back such things (to their chagrin). As a wild dragon, he is also exceptionally messy, and generally doesn’t hold with Sornieth economics, preferring to barter (or straight up fight for) for something he wants. He does not care for the finery that the clan dragons tend to wear, and is notorious for ruining his own garb if forced into something more ‘civilized’. Additionally, he does not believe in the eleven elemental deities, and instead takes on a shamanistic philosophy. The council member’s feats of magic do give him pause, as he lacks magical skill himself. However, all these traits and demands are hard to notice at first, as Markatu is extremely reserved. His odd habits are generally performed in silence. Markatu only joined the clan because of his interest in steady food and drink, and also a safe place to stay. Markatu’s life in the wilds was rougher than most, as he had no fellow dragons to stay with, and was essentially ignored for his friendship with the beastclans. However, Vega saw the value in him and his connection to the beasts, and invited Markatu to join the Laurel clan. After joining the clan, Markatu has found a mate, Nu, who he is very jealous and possessive of, but loves so full-heartedly, he doesn’t go a day without spoiling her with some gift or another. Though his gifts tend to not be to her taste, their partnership runs deep and is an inspiration to many others in the clan.
