Siva was happy, once. As coming from the family of high position, she was destined to become the wife of the future clan leader himself. Not only was he powerful, but also kind and wise. After they got married, she was happy. She had everything she could have dreamed of – a loving mate, power and respect. She had 3 sons she loved more than anything. Yet, she was aware that being in power came with responsibilities and danger. The clan her husband was leading was large and full of dragons, who were not always happy with how the things were. They considered Shemhazai a tyrant and they were drawn to what he possessed.

Siva’s happiness did not last too long, as she lost two of her sons in battles outside of their territory. And one day her husband died too, while he was visiting another clan in the Light flight. Siva’s all attention was now focused on her eldest son – Onyx, who was to become the new king. She was his regent until he was old enough to take over.

Siva was aware that some dragons in the clan were not happy with the leadership and that they wanted the power for themselves. But she knew how to deal with rebellions. The only thing she did not predict was that her closest councelor, her husband’s brother Erin, would plot against her. Two days before Onyx was to be coronated, his body was found. The clan’s medic said he had been killed, but no evidence was found that would point to the perpetrator. Time passed. Since Shemhazai did not have any children that could have taken the throne, Erin was appointed to be the leader.

Siva could not deal with all the grieve inside of her. She could not let her son’s killer get away. She was looking for clues everywhere, but nobody knew or saw anything. Only her dead son could tell her who was the traitor. The Skydancer left the clan for a while to seek help. She meet a dragon, who agreed to help her contact her son. He taught her how to get through the veil that was separating this world and the world of the deceased. She soon knew who was responsible for her son’s death. Onyx told her himself. It all made perfect sense – Erin was the next to the throne, right after Shemhazai’s children. But he had already been questioned and had witnesses who claimed they had seen him elsewhere during the night of the murder. The things money can do…

Siva could not stand the sight of Erin. She was meeting him every single day, and every time the wound in her heart would hurt more. She tried to stick to her routine and fullfill responsibilities she had accepted when she had become the queen.
