Wherever he is, he relies on hierarchy. He likes knowing the rules, knowing what he can and can’t do.

Above all, however, the concept of servitude is addicting to him.

The exhilaration of being useful. The sense of purpose. He feeds upon these feelings, molding them into an identity. He is usefulness, he is servitude.

He has entangled himself in his job in a way that he cannot undo, it would destroy him.

Some days, he thinks about the mess he’s made of himself. About how much better his life could be if he’d let it.

And so he laughs, he copes day to day with his own humour. Twisted to fit his life, personalized to his suffering. It is dark but so is he.

He copes, he lives, he is okay.
