Biography
On the wings of wind, a black dragon flew. His name is Maul and he is the king of the Phantom Kingdom. The Phantom Kingdom resides in a dimension of ghosts and spirits ravaged by the wars of days gone by. Maul, along with his queen, Argilth, rule over the dimension with a caring but iron claw. All seems to be going well, until Quincey arrives in the throne room with a concerning message. She seems scared, and as her grey tail swishes side to side she opens the scroll.
"Hear me now!" she cried out, "I have returned bearing bad news! I need your help." As she reads aloud, the mood of the audience changes. It's as if they can feel the gravity of this situation more than the words themselves.
The crowd soon gathers around her like a flock of crows. Argilth takes notice and approaches, "What do you know?"
"There are soldiers on the horizon," she answered. "They are approaching fast. I believe they are an army of some kind."
Argilth steps forward, placing her hand over theirs in a show of comfort, "And what does our beloved king think we should do about it?"
"We cannot allow them to land here or they will surely come for us."
He takes off from his throne and walks toward the edge of the balcony. Looking down into the street below, he sees hundreds of soldiers marching at their leisure. They're heading straight towards the palace. He turns back to the gathered courtiers, "You heard her, let's get ready."
"Wait," one of the courtiers interjects, "we cannot fight an army of that size alone. We'll need reinforcements."
Several of the ghosts begin whispering among themselves.
Argilth looks at the woman who spoke, "Who said that? Speak up!"
"I did," Belleza answers, "it would be foolish of us not to call upon our allies."
"So be it," Argilth replies, "call for all of your allies."
As everyone begins making calls, Argilth slowly makes her way back to her throne. She watches as people begin to leave, calling one another. A few moments pass before she hears a familiar voice. Warden is running to the royal dragons, he has a scroll from an allied kingdom. Argilth looks over at him and smiles. He bows down before her, presenting the scroll.
"My lady, I present you with this message from The Terran King; he wishes to offer you aid."
Argilth takes the scroll from him and unfolds it.
"Is there anything else you wish to tell me?" Argilth asks.
"No, my lady. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of his offer."
Argilth nods, "Thank you, Warden."
She returns the scroll to him and he leaves to make the necessary arrangements. Argilth gets comfortable back on her throne and begins reading the letter. Maul seems worried about the attack, more so than usual.
"Argilth, we have a nest with the royal child in it! We must destroy these rivals beyond recognition," Maul said with a snarl marring his face.
"Calm yourself, my love. There is no need to lose ourselves in anger today," Argilth replied.
"But they are coming for us!" he growls. "Can't you see? This is war. Our enemies are trying to take us out."
"This is a mere skirmish. It's nothing that warrants such an action. Besides, we are strong," Argilth assured him.
"I agree, but still…" he trailed off. "Alright, I trust you."
After receiving the king's offer, Argilth orders all of her allies to prepare for battle. She begins to organize the troops and assign roles. Many of the courtiers volunteer, eager to serve in the defense of the kingdom. Argilth decides to send Belleza out, along with several other warriors, to find the enemy encampment. Once they've located it, they'll try to draw them away from the city. Meanwhile, Argilth and Maul will have their own plans for the invaders.
"Are we ready?" Argilth asks her husband.
"Yes, my love."
They both take to the air and fly out of the palace. The rest of the army follows shortly after. Argilth sends Belleza and her warriors out to scout the area. After a short while, they return with news of an enemy camp at the edge of town. They quickly head in that direction, using the cover of the night sky to remain hidden. By dawn, they reach the campsite and begin laying ambushes.
"Praise the deities," Belleza says with a lighthearted sneer, "They have finally arrived."
"Now what?" Argilth asks.
"Kill 'em!" Belleza answers.
"How many of them are there?" Argilth asks.
"A lot," she responds.
"Then let's give them a taste of our wrath."
The two armies engage in combat. Both sides have spells, but their magic doesn't seem to work against each other. Argilth flies around, swooping down to strike. She dives and claws at the enemy, leaving only bodies behind. Some of the soldiers manage to defend themselves, but they have little success. Soon enough, they're overrun.
"Let's finish this," Argilth commands.
"Agreed," Belleza answers.
Together, they soar through the skies and dive toward the enemy camp once again.
"You know, I never thought I'd see this day," Argilth says.
"Neither did I," Belleza agrees.
"But we fought together in the past," she continues. "Now we're united again."
"It's good to be back," Belleza replies.
"Indeed," she adds.
They fall upon the remaining enemy forces, killing them all. As the day broke, the Phantom Kingdom emerged victorious against the enemy encampment. But that was only one battle in the war.
