She made a critical error, however. While she held no particular interest in the lavish lifestyle of royalty, she did have a fondness and attachment to her orchid filigree. Once all of her supplies were gathered, she snuck into the family vault to take it with her. What she didn't know was her suitor, the male from the rival principality to whom she would have been bound the next day, had also decided to visit the vault, but his reason was to survey the dowry which he would receive as a gift for accepting her as his mate, including her filigree. He entered the room as she stuffed the priceless set of jewelry into her satchel and was trying to make her hasty escape. Surveying the situation quickly, and realizing what her escape would mean for him and his receipt of the dowry, he attempted to stop her by force.

Being that he was only fighting for greed, while Mouse was fighting for her life, she managed to break through him with sheer force of will and adrenaline, but she did not escape unscathed; as she passed him, the male to whom she was meant to commit her love and life and whom she had never so much as laid eyes on before lashed out with his claws, tearing three long gashes through her delicate wing membranes. Seeing the princess harmed and in pain, one of the statues that had long stood guard over the door to the family vault sprung to life, placing itself between Mouse and her suitor turned assailant and giving her the precious few seconds she needed to escape.


Upon arriving at Corcair Cion, Mouse received the same warm, familiar welcome that all visitors receive when they find themselves among this clan. They made her a place to rest her head and tended to her wounds. At first, she was concerned that they had somehow gotten wind of her flight, and were trying to cajole her into remaining in place while her family sent couriers to retrieve her. However, as she watched the clan welcome warrior and wanderer alike in the exact same manner that they had done for her, she realized and accepted that these were not selfish, conniving dragons in search of a quick bounty, but a group of genuine allies with whom she could life her life not just for her, but for dragons who saw her for what she was and would sacrifice for her as readily as she would for them.

While Mouse does enjoy spending night with some of the males that call Corcair Cion home or welcomes the occasional overtaxed traveller to rest his head beside hers, she always prefers the company of females. She can often be found sharing meals and the responsibilities of motherhood with her clan sisters.
