Forest Phantom
Wander too deeply into the wilds of the Sunbeam Ruins, and you may encounter a child. It can be difficult to know she's there at first. Her skin is striated like tree bark, her wings dappled with shadows, like light through the forest canopy. Often the first sign of her presence is a soft laugh, a rustle of leaves as she scampers away. Or else her eyes appear, golden and unblinking, peering from the shadows beneath the trees.

"She is a spirit," some dragons caution, "who leads travelers astray."

"She is a guide," declare others, "who aids the lost and the weak."

"She is a demon. The forest is her den, and it is wiser not to tread there...."

"No, she is an angel, crafted by the gods. She serves the divine, and her purpose is not ours to reason why."

It is rare, but at times she does let dragons approach her. The question, invariably, comes up: "What are you?"

She blinks her golden eyes, and a smile tugs the corners of her mouth. Her voice whispers, right next to their ears—

"I am whatever I choose to be."
