WE ARE BUT A FRAGMENT

______ We'll go together in flight.
Nadezhda was found at the edge of a universe, so full of pastels she would nearly be missed. All she knew was the color of her soft scales, and she was content with this. She had dreamt of tales of the vast sea of darkness outside of the soft colors. She couldn't imagine she would be able to function in a world so, terribly dark.
She began to think of a story, and as time went on, multiple stories, all of them crossing into each other at one point or another, whether it crossed a galaxy, or was as clear as a crystal.
The first story was the one Nadezhda herself lived in. "La galaxie s'étend," she had whispered to herself. This world was made of the fine pastels she knew so well, though somehow, it went even farther than that. Deep blues and dark purples wove themselves into her story, making everything more vivid, clear, magical.
In this world, she imagined two of her own, bound to fall like the stars they knew they were. One was confident, sure. He knew we would fall, but he would fall with someone, and that made it worth it.
The other was anxious, uncertain. She thought too much about the end, often putting off the present.
In order to calm her, he said, "We are realms. We live for ourselves, and though we may need to melt like obelisks, at least we would have lived."

______ It feels like flying,
Her second story was only an alternate. Here, there were still pastels, however there were much less. It was more vivid, filled with more language than she could ever understand, and the sharpest vision. Nadezhda often spent more time thinking about this story. After all, the alternate was always more colorful. "Jardin de l'imagination" she said when she started this story. Here, she built a world to properly live on, full of bright greens and blues, and only her sunrises consisted of pastels anymore.
"Combler le fossé dans notre évolution" she had imagined once. From this, she imagined full kingdoms built by stars, where no one was left at stake. These two stories crossed often. The same star could always be seen in both worlds, the first two dragons could travel here on special occasion, and the pastels were always the same.

______ But maybe we're dying.
Her third story was not so kind. Here, it was the vast darkness she had dreamt of. There was a Goddess who promised apologies like an ambulance. Everything here was music, everything was the sound of music murder. There were a few of her kind, "The Three" she had called them. They believed it was a reverie endeavor, awaiting directives for now and never. They were born of one emotion. They acted as if they were in line for a show, eternally excited for what was to come. They were the charmers of the black ocean, convincing everyone they saw that they made one The Three see color.
