Montague is the oldest member of the Starbard clan, older than the Progenitors. He presented himself as an adviser from the beginning, knowing the ways of Plague well, and also knowing the habits of the Imperials. He was a regal addition, and Fluri in particular worried he might be too pompous for the clan, but despite caring a great deal for wit and manners, he proved himself down to earth and a sturdy core member of the team.

Montague has never sought a lifelong mate, preferring the whirlwind romances and courting, and getting bored after the chase. He has no affiliations with his offspring, and he is not interested in furthering the strength of the clan through breeding.

Montague's primary interests are in diplomacy, intrigue, secrets and working to secure alliances wherever possible. He was one of the first to suggest alliances with the beastclans, and takes pains to learn their languages, even when they are hard or even impossible to pronounce.

A creature of grace, wit and diplomacy, sometimes others forget that he is a true Plague dragon down to his core. He delights in dark humour. He finds blood fascinating and must be kept away from the wounded lest he lose sight of himself. It is said he finds great satisfaction in the perverse, but he never pushes these aspects of himself upon others, and cares greatly for the consent and comfort of all those around him.
