Ay, life's pretty good. Why wouldn't it be? I am a pirate, after all.
╭
Mal is the type of dragon to call himself salubrious and generous while stealing someone's treasure. He may be dastardly though, but he's always a gentleman. Always willing to risk his life for the next trinket his wife desires, Mal doesn't spend much time at home. He's nearly always out on his ship, causing trouble in yet another land, racking up bounties and returning gleefully home with his loot. Mal often helps at home with the duties, picking up the kids from day-care when he's available, cleaning up the kitchens, and breaking the necks of traitors and burying the corpses in the swamp, just like a good dad does. He is an excellent shadow puppet master and hair braider, and often visits the parents of dragons that are picking on his sons and daughters. A good father, a good dragon, indeed. Mal seeks to provide the best life for his children, doing the best task he is suited for. He prides himself on his job and work, and calls every single grisly murder, debauchery, and looting ""Just a part of the job.""

╭
Mal was hatched with an intention that he didn't agree with: He was to be fodder. Even as a hatchling, he disagreed with the idea that his future involved serving the Arcanist staring at old tomes and over-analysing the skies. When pirates came and ravaged his clan's home, he slipped away to investigate. He sneaked on to the ship and got caught by one of the lingering crew. Instead of killing him though, or even sending the terrified dragon back to the clan, the dragon shanghaied him into working on the ship and the captain chose to take him on as a cabin boy. He learned quickly how to fight with a sword and when he didn't he often suffered painful wounds inflicted by the others for not being ""quicker and lighter"" on his feet. Mal quickly learnt to never get hit again. When he could accompany the crew to pillage a clan, he learned how violent the crew was when they utterly destroyed the clan leaving very little trace of its existence afterwards. Theirs was a self-written code that few other ships followed. Mal discovered his favourite part of being a pirate was when the ship made port. His scars told stories that many dragons were eager to hear and he could sell for a higher price and buy for a lower one (if not free) when he imposed himself. Mal became quite the actor when he didn't get his way and when that didn't work, he became violent. During a particularly dangerous storm the ship was ambushed by another. Arcaners blasted holes into the ship and when the ship started to sink, Mal fled using one of the lifeboats they had. Abandoning his former life, he rowed until the lifeboat sank and was swept up in the waves. He washed up on one of the Ashfall Waste's few black-sanded beaches while a scavenging party was out. They'd taken him back to the lair and squeezed the water out of him and patched him up a bit. He stayed in the clan for some time, entrancing the young in tales of plunder and irritating others who didn't believe him. It soon became apparent that he intended to buy a ship and crew of his own but when the opportunity arose, he shrugged it off multiple times. When word reached him of an arcane ship that was porting soon, he left the clan eager to put himself back at work. Unfortunately, the ship was already under attack, even if the crew onboard didn’t know. Another Ridgeback was slinking along the deck towards the hoard of jewels Mal was aiming for. Her body was sleek and shiny, and rippled with dangerous muscle. He flung his blade toward her neck, making her freeze. The only sound was a single drop of blood hitting the deck. He aimed one of his killer smiles towards her, and she winked back, stirring up his insides. With a surge of adrenaline, he took down nearly the entire ship, allowing her to take down the captain, as a gentleman should. Gathering all the gold and presenting it to her, she accepted his request, and the two flew off together, leaving the ship to burn. Finding a place to hide from his lady’s previous crew was easy when it came to the Gladeveins. While he would never admit it, Mal managed to get hopelessly lost before appearing at the front of the Tribe, a clan that owned a massive swamp where anything could be lost. The swamp bordered a few traveller’s paths, and it was suffice to say Mal saw dollar signs in his eyes. Throwing a bag of gold on the desk, which the leader looked curiously at, Mal and his lady sauntered down to the swamp, where he made himself home in a ship hull that had crashed eons ago. He of course proceeded to spoil his lady with the most lavish of items he could find, which she would always repay with a wicked back massage… among other things. It was safe to say his romantic life was very fulfilling. While pillaging is far less devastating than it was with his former crew, the rewards are still reaped, and he still wreaks havoc before clans, travellers, or hapless merchants submit.
