Terus

Terus was born in the Churnscar Wharf – at least, presumably – to unknown parents, and spent the first few years of his life as a street urchin. To the adults of the town, he was a semi-feral nuisance, to the orphanage managers, he was an elusive cryptid, and to the children, he was a legend.

One day, a group of pirates came into town, and took one of the piers hostage, extorting supplies and medicine from the local government. When they got what they wanted and fled the area, they found Terus hiding in a barrel in the hold and demanding to join them.

The pirates, being experienced with this kind of thing, took Terus in, gave him some chores, and a few weeks later, when they reached another port, immediately dropped the hatchling there and ran off. But before they could get out of sight, they found him climbing out of a canoe and laughing over them nearly leaving him behind.

This cycle continued for several years, during which time the pirates actually got quite attached to the young dragon. On Terus' birthday, the day he became a legal adult, they offered him a real job on the ship. Terus quickly became a very successful pirate, cultivating a knack for dramatic speeches and a, while stereotypical, distinctly powerful fashion sense.

One day, Terus docked the ship for repairs, went for a walk, and came back a vampire. Some say he was cursed by a sea witch, others believe he was touched by the Shade and drained of his own lifeforce, still others think he's just drinking blood and hiding from the sun for the aesthetic. Whatever the explanation, he took it in stride – after all, the only thing better than being a pirate is being a vampirate.
