Snowdrop is a spirit of nature. Specifically, a spirit of elemental ice.

She hails from the frozen North - from the same lands as the forest spirit Spruce. In fact, it was Spruce who summoned her to the Clan of Second Chances, to become his ally in a plot of bitter retaliation against the monsters who wronged him.

In truth, the forest spirit had sought the ice spirit's mother, Frostbite, a spirit as ancient and powerful as himself. Frostbite however, sent Snowdrop in her stead. She deemed Spruce's plot too reckless and selfish to be worth her time. In fact, sending her daughter was likely a deliberate slight against the forest spirit - Snowdrop was weak and inexperienced, unlikely to be of any practical aid.

Despite that inexperience and weakness, however, Snowdrop was not a pawn, and refused to be treated as such. Upon arriving at the Unrepentant Clan, she snubbed Spruce's summons. Instead, she set about investigating the clan itself. She had never seen such a large and organized gathering of dragons, and wondered what it would be like to live among them.

In particular, Snowdrop was drawn to the nesting grounds. Barely older than a hatchling herself, she was confused by the lack of play and levity among the Unrepentant hatchlings. They were fodder, bred for war, but it nonetheless seemed cruel to deny them the simple pleasures of childhood.

Snowdrop was created as all of her kind are, summoned into being by raw elemental magic during a brutal snowstorm. As was tradition, her summoner became her mother – a hateful and vindictive mother who treated Snowdrop as leverage amid the complex matriarchal society of her fellow spirits, rather than as a thinking and feeling being.

However, even Frostbite had understood the value of those simple childhood pleasures, and if it were not for that play and levity, it is unlikely that Snowdrop would have survived the mental abuse and physical neglect with her mind intact. Hence why she is so determined to provide those pleasures to others like her.

When she first manifested her draconic form, the form of a Wildclaw, it was for the sole purpose of spending time with the clan’s neglected and unhappy hatchlings. Naturally maternal and affectionate, she began to entertain them, to play with them, and to keep them company.

Snowdrop was initially treated with suspicion due to her unannounced arrival and unwillingness to explain her reason for entering Unrepentant territory. However, she was made a member of the Clan of Second Chances by way of a petition from dozens of exhausted nursemaids - they quickly realized that entertained hatchlings were far more manageable and far less rebellious.

Snowdrop is not the only spirit that haunts the clan’s nesting grounds. She and Nocturne, though initially wary of one-another's methods, now work together. The ice spirit introduces the hatchlings to the joys of childhood, while Nocturne introduces them to discipline.

Together, their approach is a relatively balanced one. Since her arrival, every soldier born and bred in the Unrepentant Clan is able to enjoy a questionably healthy but arguably happy childhood, regardless of the bleak future that awaits them.

Both Nocturne and Snowdrop radiate auras of frost, which are surprisingly conducive to hatchling care - particularly care of the clan's most powerful and valued hatchlings. Silverslash and Void produce offspring of living metal, which in their formative state are still partially liquid. Cold temperatures help their bodies to solidify, the vital first step towards tempering them into living weapons.

Alexi, the refugee Fairy King, is little older than a hatchling himself. As such, he has become close friends with the companionable ice spirit. His advisor dissuades this, knowing that the Fae will be heartbroken by their separation when the time comes to return to his kingdom.

However, Snowdrop is perhaps the closest match for Alexi in both personality and youth among the monsters of the Clan of Second Chances. Seeing as dragons of the Fairy Kingdom are innately drawn to nature spirits, Dreamweaver merely counts himself as lucky that his young king was not drawn to Spruce instead.

Spruce may have summoned Snowdrop to be little more than a tool in his plot for retaliation, but the young ice spirit has proven herself to be an asset rather than a hindrance to the Unrepentant Clan. However, she still ranks among the most disgustingly innocent and empathetic members of the clan, and is a desirable target for influence and corruption.

There are many Unrepentant dragons who are far more devious and subtle in their manipulations than Spruce, and it will only be a matter of time until she succumbs.

Will she become as vindictive and hateful as her mother? That remains to be seen.
