Biography

Leyla, the Priestess, Omen of Darkness
"In our darkest night, they descended from the heavens like a gift. Their wings were made of light, their claws pulled at the fabric of the sky. We prostrated ourselves below them, shuddering, yet they spared us. We, so unworthy of their majesty, were saved."

This bio is going to be a bit different from most I write. As I'm sure you've noticed, I often write in a passive voice, as all good draconic scribes should. (Though somehow, I haven't even written every bio in my notes. Honestly not sure how to explain that one.) However, Leyla the Priestess is quite difficult to pin down for an interview, and no other dragons really seem up to spread information or rumors, either.

Most information I have gathered about Leyla has been told to me in whispers and from overheard conversations. Not many dragons would dare talk about her daily goings on, it seems. Least of all, Leyla herself. I'm sure that when she heard the local scribe was looking for her, she turned up her stealth skills to 100, as I only seemed to be able to see her as she was turning corners away from me, and, no matter how close I was to that particular corner, she was always at the next one by the time I made my way around the first.

Leyla, as far as I can tell, is a shadowy and dangerous figure who thrives in the darkest, shadowiest parts of the tunnels of the clan. She runs some kind of cult, worshiping an obviously taboo figure, though I can't figure out who or what it is. I heard about secret meetings in unfinished tunnels and dark rooms, where cultists disguise themselves in dark cowls and robes. Yet, every time I attempted to infiltrate one of these meetings, I found only darkness where I knew I had seen dark robed figures. Somehow, Leyla and her supposed cult are hiding so perfectly from me and, apparently, her fellow members of the Council.

I asked some of the Council about Leyla, they deigned to tell me little. However, I managed to eavesdrop on one of their meetings (one of many where Leyla wasn't present) about the priestess specifically, and what they said was... revealing. They happened to be arguing about what to do about her and her... followers. Some councilors suggested going after them, stopping the cult, preventing any weird rituals or sacrifices they might be doing. And then, of the shouting match that ensued, I managed to make out that her powers were too strong by themselves, that they had all seen the scope of her abilities, and that she was too much for even them to reckon with. And, they said, they had no idea how many her cult was, and where they were exactly. If the Council went after them, they could either be dealing with Leyla and a single follower, or they could be dealing with half of the clan. Or more.

Now, this was... alarming. For many reasons. 1. Now I knew that Leyla was a dangerous dragon, with powerful magic abilities. 2. The cult was so shadowy, so mysterious, that not even the Council dared go after them. 3. Anyone, and I mean anyone, in the clan could be a cult member (Great!). And 4. I had listened in on a sensitive Council meeting, and now I probably couldn't ever publish this information without one or all of them gunning for me.

At least I knew exactly which ones were willing to kill me without remorse. Some council members in particular were incredibly dangerous and incredibly well known for their danger, but then, some were... less scary. Those ones usually gave a dragon a sad, pitiful look before they killed them. I'm not sure that's much better.

Either way, no matter who kills me, I know I don't want it to be Leyla. I've only seen a small sampling of her power, and if it was as immense as the Council made it out to be, I didn't think I'd want Leyla's rage pointed at me.

Addendum:
Someone stole a copy of my notes, and now the council doubtless knows I eavesdrop on them regularly. Oh boy, can't wait to never be able to show my face in the clan again...
Haha... Maybe I should join Leyla's weird death cult, and she could teach me her stealthy, magical evasion skills...

Addendum 2:
Looking back at these notes, I've realized it may be unclear where I got Leyla's statement. Well, I stole a book from an apparent cultist, and this quote was on a bookmark in it, like a gods-forsaken inspirational "Live, Laugh, Love" quote. I honestly can't tell if these cultists are very smart or very stupid. Maybe they're just toying with me.
