Most explosions and strange things originate from Octus’s lab, so most sane individuals avoid that general direction. He never agreed with the concept of "safe practice", thinking that mistakes and collateral damage are unfortunate, but necessary, side effects of science. Octus is a character of contradictions; He is a genius with no common sense, reckless yet carefully exacting, and aloof but talkative.

Octus lays claim to the development of countless inventions, contraptions, and chemicals. He is rivals of sorts with Tiomet. Both respect the other as brilliant scientists but try to one-up each other despite the difference in specialties; Octus, drawn more to the mechanical and Tiomet to the biological. Octus dislikes how Tiomet is so careful and exacting about his experiments and data, believing that forcing experiments within rules hinders discovery.
