Biography
and autumn comes when you're not yet done
with the summer passing by, but
i don't think i could stand to be
where you don't see me
mitski - francis forever
rhygo might adorn herself with all the things of fall but she is a dragon of summer at heart. wherever she walks, balmy nights and a chorus of crickets are sure to follow. within her lies potential rivaled by few. young and naive. a promising warrior with a mind full of leaves - it floats away at the slightest breeze. rhygo adores tara and constantly tries to emulate her. she has even begun trying to dress like her- weaving sticks, feathers and leaves into her armor. she is the daughter of a minor spirit of summer and doesn't know it. this mirror girl's strongest bond with another dragon is and always will be with her girlfriend kishar. sitting atop a beaten-up table in Rhygo's woodland cottage is a small stack of letters, neatly bound with homespun thread. they're the only thing in her house not covered in a thick layer of dust. their edges are worn and fraying, but there's one, sitting at the top of the pile, that has barely been touched. over the last few months Rhygo could not say how many times she had poured over every word, every turn of phrase Kishar had written in an attempt to read between the lines and find out not just why the pearlcatcher girl had uprooted herself and traveled so far from home, but why she was adamant about not returning. but not this letter - the latest in a correspondence going back years. this one she had read only once, and would not read again. so, she chooses a different one from the pile at random and begins to read.
To Rhygo, my dearest sunfish,
It's wonderfully isolated in this neck of the woods, er, mountains. I can almost feel that I'm getting closer now! Though... I do feel homesick at times... Do you remember the first day I invited you out to the river? I think about it often, now. Call me a sucker for nostalgia. It's so very cold here. I guess life in the Watchtower makes you forget you're in the middle of Ice territory. rhygo chuckled at that, just as she did the last time she read the letter and all the times before. ...anyway. It was the middle of summer - maybe three, four years ago. Gods, we were so stupid. Do you remember how we tried to catch fish with nothing but our claws? I still can't believe that you actually caught something. You'll have to show me how you did that again sometime - when I come back. Maybe by the time I get back, I'll get to show you some new tricks too... I've been learning a lot of interesting things about the dragons here. Did you know that there are peaceful beastclans this far north that actually help dragonkind? Yeah. They help guide us poor travelers through the mountains. There aren't many couriers up here in the mountains, so my responses might take a bit longer. Sorry about that, man. Really wish I could see you. - Kishar
dear kishar,
you asked me if i miss you in your most recent letter. to that i have my own question: how do you miss someone you've never really known? is it not the gods' greatest punishment to curse the tongue with hunger for something it can never taste? for whatever wrong i have done toward our saints, i'm truly sorry come home, and perhaps i'll get to know the stranger that wears your skin To Rhygo: I'm sorry. I can't come back yet. There's too much for me to discover about my origins here. I can't leave. Not yet. Maybe not ever. It pains me to leave you, my dear, but I'm afraid it's my only option. Goodbye for now. I wish you well. |
