The dawn leaks out from over his brow. Generations gone. But here is the beginning, a place to start anew, from dead earth, and dust, and the stinging light, where it borders the night, and the darkness, and the kingdom of the other stars. He walks the line, calculating the pace of the day. Each eye a separate star seeking a place in the void to call home.
In darkness he remains. Others catching glimpses of him. Half-visions, barely formed, for the mind and the light play dirty tricks. Casting many shadows he blinks, and new stars open up across the chasm of his dreams, and his steps, and his skin. Here is the sign, of another age, another time. Death and life pass him by, embedded in his smile; he precedes them, develops them, over and over and over--the daybreak, the nightfall, the vastness of eternity.
