Some might think that Ennis founded the Sovereign Laboratory in an effort to make up for the fact that he was abandoned as an egg, left by his parents in the first Lightning nest they’d stumbled upon. After all, he could never answer the question of where he came from, surely he turned to science in an effort to understand everything else in the universe to compensate, right?

Wrong. Ennis founded the lab quite simply because he just loves science!

Science is wonderful, science explains everything! The stars above? That’s just astronomy and physics. The regular volcanic activity in the Ashfall Wastes? Geology! Magic? That’s just really advanced science, of course! One of these days he’ll figure out exactly how his mate Beryl does her so-called magic, he just needs to nail down the exact experimental procedure…

Ennis loves science so much that he decided to establish the Sovereign Laboratory to give like-minded dragons a place to come together and collaborate, a place to learn together and share their knowledge for the betterment of all. He spends his days there, sometimes performing his own experiments, sometimes attending lectures hosted by fellow scientists, sometimes picking fights with other dragons about whether or not there’s such thing as gods (Ennis is well aware that the Earthshaker and the others exist, he’s just not completely convinced that they’re truly gods - his current theory is that they’re super-advanced aliens). He’s at the labs first thing in the morning, rain or shine, and often stays late enough that Beryl has to drag him home by the tail, protesting that he just has one more data set to analyze, this will only take five minutes, Beryl wait, no, not my notebook - !

If given the opportunity, he would live on nothing but caffeine and the ration pellets that one of the newest members of the biochemistry department developed, but when he (or Beryl) eventually manages to drag himself out of the lab for a bit of fresh air, he likes to treat himself to fancy coffee and baked goods. Anything chocolate is good, anything cinnamon is better, and if you mix the two? He’s basically in heaven. Unfortunately he’s only found one shop that seems to keep chocolate cinnamon rolls on their menu, and he has yet to convince the owner to open up a second location inside the Sovereign Laboratory, but one day he’ll achieve his goal, and then he’ll never need to leave his lab again. Someday…
