The clan of Ridgebacks lived peacefully on the cliffside with a colony of Fae dragons. The larger dragons lived on the cliff, while the Faes stuck their colony on the side of the ledge. They hunted for each other, and raised their little ones together.

The area was always prone to earthquakes, but they were minor and easily ignored. As a result, the clan's population continued to grow and flourish. As the Ridgebacks continued developing their lair on top of the cliff, and the Faes expanded their colony stuck to the side, the land began to become unstable. Some noticed the instability, but the leaders of both ignored the warnings.

An earthquake, unusually severe, struck. Both clans fled, but it was too late. There was no time to grab younglings who couldn't fly before the entire cliffside began to crack and groan as rock scraped against rock. Half of the Ridgeback's colony and the entirety of the Fae's colony plummeted into the sea, carrying dragons caught under the intricate structures that they built with it. This included the Ridgeback's nests. The caretaker saved as much as she could, but nearly two-thirds of the hundreds of eggs were lost. Horrified, the survivors looked on as their home, kin, and children sunk into the depths below...

The pulsating green pustule of an egg dropped into the sea and was immediately dragged down deeper by the currents. For a moment, everything sat in perfect silence as the egg sunk to a point where it could float in one place. An animal, seeing the bright green egg, whisked it away quickly. It used its snout to push the little treasure into its hoard: a massive shell of an ancient creature, filled with air. The gentle warmth of the current kept the inside comfortable; although humid. The creature gently rolled the cold egg into its shiny pile. The egg rested in piles of shining coral, lost coins, and shed gemstones from the creatures of the Crystal Pools.

After collecting its treasure, the creature left to hunt. The egg sat in the warm stillness of the shell at the bottom of the sea, before cracking. Then it began to thrash. Fluid dripped from the cracks as the little hatchling broke through. The little Ridgeback shook the remaining egg-goop off as it took in its surroundings. She stopped when her stomach growled, and she knew that she had to go find food soon. Stepping forward, she peered into the passage that took her to the dark seafloor. She put a hesitant claw in the warm water, but quickly pulled back. No food there. She dug through the piles of gold and gemstones in search of food. There was a few hard stones that looked like it, but when she tried to bite into them it made her jaw hurt. No food here. The little Ridgeback wailed from the hunger pains as the hours ticked by, her cries echoing in the glossy chamber. No one came to feed her.

The creature stopped as it carried its kill back to its lair. He had heard something rummaging around! Wedging the smaller turtle in a crack between the shell and the rock it was resting on, he stalked up through the shell's passage and peered into his lair, ready to snap up the intruder...

The Ridgeback youngling's head snapped to the passage and a great big turtle's head surfaced from the water. She yelped, and then stared at it. She ended the staring contest by screaming for food, snapping up the air to make her point.

The turtle stared at the little hatchling, before grabbing its kill from outside and dragging it in. The hatchling ate greedily, filling up her little belly...

The Goliath turtle raised the little dragon from youth to adulthood, teaching her how to swim and hunt. The little one was scared of the water at first, but eventually got used to it and began to hunt with the turtle. At first, she could only hunt small fish near the surface as she had to go up for air every few minutes. During Goliath's usual treasure hunts, he found a curious pearl that was held in an unfortunate Pearlcatcher's mangled claw. It was shiny and glowed with blue energy, so he took it home to the now-adult Ridgeback.

The Ridgeback looked at the stone curiously, holding it in her claws. Holding it made her feel... rejuvenated, almost. As if the air around her was clearer, and less humid and suffocating. She decided that this was to be her lucky stone. After a nap, she swam to the surface with Goliath to catch fish. She swam like a sleek bullet through the water, snapping up fish left and right. Eventually she stopped, noticing something. In the hours that she's been hunting, not once did she have to surface for air. What had happened to her? Whatever it was, she welcomed the change. With her newfound ability to breathe underwater, she began to hunt bigger prey with Goliath. Sharks, Mammertees, Maren hunting parties, even other rival sea turtles or dragons... nothing was safe from Sierra and her caretaker. Sierra would chase the prey and corner them, and Goliath would sneak up on them and deliver the final, fatal snap, dragging the prey back to their home shell to loot and devour.

After the hunts are done and they lay down to rest, Sierra picks grime and parasitic fish from Goliath's scaly hide. In return, Goliath picks leeches and snails off of her leathery wings where she can't reach. Sierra accompanied Goliath when he courted a female, and set foot on the beach for the first time to protect their nest. At first, she marveled at the sights and sounds on the surface, but then became very cold. As she shivered, she longed to be submerged into the warm water once again. Soon, her scales dried and the scorching sun warmed her. She welcomed the warmth as she lay in the sand, in wait for the hatching of her dear friends' nest, but she hated the feeling of dry sand against her dry scales. Curious dragons approached her; wanting a conversation, but she just ignored them. She didn't understand what they were trying to say anyway.
