Parent Lore:
Sky’s Distraught

Rama was born of the nightlights we now call Stars. They fluttered and danced on his scales, not with a burning light but with a soft glow that pronounced his royalty. He was known for this, but more importantly for his impulsive anger that waxed and waned like the Moon. Rama was satisfied to being heir to the Sky, but there was another family presiding in the area, the Night. He believed his land was being stolen and misused for their sorcerous shadows, and he would not inherit anything with them on his land. The problem was both families had grown here for about the same length and believed it to be theirs.

The Night family even had a daughter around the same time as Rama was born, meaning both families had a potential heir to make the disagreements worse. Now, Kali was rumored to be more fickle than the flashing shadows that traced her body, but the resemblance stopped there. She was more like the soft pinks that ran the length of her thick wings. While she still believed the land belonged to her family, she felt bad for kicking any family out and was more willing to come to an arrangement than to face the harsh, sorrow loss of war. She summoned both families for council and peace treaties.

However, neither family of the Stars and Night could find a reasonable settlement; there was no way to split the land without either family losing much needed resources, and none would want to make the journey in the rival’s land to give them said resources for fear of being taken prisoner. So, each ambassador went to the land of the Earth to see how Water and Earth divided the land. The news came back to much surprise, they didn’t. Instead of assigning property, the had wed the families together. Neither heir was in favor of the plan, but everyone else had agreed unanimously. Both Rama and Kali went along with their parents’ commands, but Kali grew more adjusted.

Rama’s mind was still arrogant and greedy, wishing for the whole sky to himself. So, while the two lived together in close quarters, there was still a great distance between them. Despite all Kali did to dissolve the wall, Rama would build it higher until Kali stopped trying to be a friend but settle for a loyal mate.

Now the Sun, a small family, knew they could no longer profit after the war since there was peace spreading, and threw away all hope of being the ruling family unless they could get rid of the competition. They snuck to the lair where Rama and Kali presided and lit fire to the soft, dry grasses used for cushioning. The fire spread quickly and caught Kali in the crosshairs. Rama fought back the Sun and called upon allies to help fight. The Stars and the Night were at war again, but now on the same side. While they can fight the sun, they are equally matched to where the Sun and Day can win for hours, but in a moment, the Stars and Night can rule the sky. As seasons pass, the Night’s rein last longer and the Day shorter, but it changes in the same way the world keeps turning out of hate.

During the period of darkness, Rama tends to Kali whose dark scales were scorched darker and her wings thinned and became transparent over time from her lack of good health. She remained in this state, but the relationship flourished under the time spent together without hate. They were crowned with beautiful filigree for Rama and Kali had earned their title as rulers from both the clans of the Stars and the Night.
