TUREK
Shadow Councilor
Amicable | Mischievous | Secretive

"Quote." - name

quick look
- Shadow rep/council member
- Looks terrifying and plays that up for funsies
- Actually a big (albeit mischievous) sweetheart
- Lacks the typical Tundra memory issues, but does recognize others more by smell than by sight – perhaps mostly due to the fact that his eyes are literally Shadow goop
- Harbors an incredible wealth of power and skill in Shadow magic, but mostly uses his abilities for general mischief and convenience
- More likely to spin a little Shadow imp to fetch him some cocoa than he is to pull a dragon into an inescapable shadowy void leading to who knows where, but he is quite capable of both feats
- May or may not have been considered a minor deity in his old clan
history

Turek was blessed by the Shadowbinder – gifted with power enough to level cities.

He doesn’t remember the occasion, having been but an embryo at the time. He didn’t feel the palpable shift in the air as reality bent to accommodate a god, nor did he hear her gleeful laughter carried on the chill wind as she swept toward the clan’s nesting grounds, but his parents did; they told him many times of how they quivered and bowed to the vast wave of her raw power, ready to accept whatever fate she would deal them. But she didn’t want them – rather, she sought the lone egg that they had produced, bathing it in her shadows and infusing it with slivers of her magnificent essence.

Nobody knows why she did it. Most are probably too afraid to speculate, but others will solemnly assert that no mere mortal can ever hope to know the true motivation of a god.

(If you ask Turek, he will smile and tell you that she just did it because she could, and he’ll sound so certain of the idea that you can’t help but believe him.)

Perhaps the reason behind the Shadowbinder’s blessing doesn’t really matter – what matters is that it happened. Turek may not remember the change in the air or the laughter, but he remembers everything after, for her touch spawned in his undeveloped form a kind of consciousness, allowing him to perceive the world and its inhabitants weeks before even the seed of thought should have been known to him. He knew the truths of everything that shadows touched: the dark side of each blade of grass, the shifting expanses of black cast by gnarled trees and loping creatures, and the impenetrable darkness sitting heavily at the bottom of every deep pool of water.

When he hatched, the air shifted.

He spilled from his egg in a deluge of liquid darkness. It bled from his eyes, seeped over his thick fur like oil over water. His fearful parents swiftly delivered him to the clan’s priest, but the old Skydancer took one look at him and crowed, “Holy, holy, holy!”

And so he was.

Clan members began bringing him gifts – offerings of rare materials, silk clothing, and fine jewelry. Holy or not, as a hatchling Turek had little use for such frivolous items (although he will today attest that one of the priceless jeweled armlets painstakingly unearthed from the region’s deepest underground cavern made a fantastic chew-toy), and the clan members mistook his indifference for rejection.
