“You’re up, you’re up!” Rhiannon nodded encouragingly to the little Spiral waiting his turn patiently to twist and curl to the beat of the music. Without a second’s pause, he bounded out to the cheers of his friends and fellow students. Rhiannon watched the rock and turn, his feet and wings turning with the hours of practice he’d put into forcing his often unwieldy body into a steady rhythm of control and pop. Rhiannon didn’t know where on Sornieth the dance got its start, but she was sure it reached its pinnacle here in Wind. Spirals were born for this. As soon as the little b-boy finished up with a flourish and flick of his tail, Rhiannon snapped out to the center of the watching students. Her wings were too small to fly well, but she could fly without ever leaving the ground. She spun on the ground, compressing her coils for momentum to come up to a spin on her head, her horns tilted just so out of the way. With a snap of her tail, she whipped around and rose to a foot, the music’s beat commanding her heart and soul to move. The little crowd cheered, the young Spirals attempting to emulate her hopping without sprawling out on the ground. Even when a few of them did, they twisted, rolled, and popped off the ground like it was what they meant to do. Rhiannon jumped away, a tilt of her head and display of her wings something like her signature finish. The round continued, each little Spiral displaying his or her prowess and control. That was important for Spirals, the control. So many dragons saw them as out-of-control, disorganized. They were often just enthusiastic, not chaotic. It was important to Rhiannon. Some dragons didn’t understand that, only seeing it as a series of tricks for attention. But it wasn’t that. It was so much more. |

Rhiannon is a Spiral of many words. Even though Rhiannon joined her dancing troupe at a young age, Rhiannon does not consider herself a dancer. The others beg to disagree, however. Rhiannon doesn’t engage in the traditional styles of her homeland, Wind, or heritage, Arcane. Rather, Rhiannon calls what she calls b-girling, or, as it is more commonly known about Sornieth (incorrectly, she says), breakdancing. Rhiannon’s own style is a mish-mash of Wind-style and Shadow. Even though Rhiannon is technically her troupe’s marketer, the other dragons, Lorelai especially, will always introduce her as the troupe’s resident, closet b-girl. As talkative as she is observant, Rhiannon always seems to know exactly what to say to get exactly what she wants. What she wants is usually a premier performance slot in the world’s biggest celebrations. Rhiannon has talked up her troupe so much, it seems like it’s no longer a celebration without her favorite dancers somewhere in the mix, whether it’s the Riot of Rot or the Mistral Jamboree. Rhiannon makes sure her chosen family is booked and in the right place at the right time—and someday she hopes her troupe will make anywhere the right place and right time.. Rhiannon is good friends with the dragons in her dance troupe, even though they tend to spend too much time trying to get Rhiannon to put on her own little sideshow. After all, her modern dance is just as entertaining to the public as their take on traditional dances. Any offers to help with “choreography,” though, and met with a derisive sniff and an upturned nose. There’s no such thing as a choreographed b-girl, in Rhiannon’s mind. Her small wings and lack of focus for channeling magic to keep her aloft makes many traditional dragon dances difficult for her to master, but she enjoys watching more than anyone she knows. Despite her head-in-the-clouds style of organization, she keeps track of exactly when and where her troupe is supposed to be. Rhiannon’s loveable personality and passionate selling of her favorite art form makes her fairly well-known and beloved of celebration managers even for the world’s greatest elemental holidays. |
