Biography
His musk of ancient bloods filled the space once again, warmth radiating around the secluded burrow we often shared.
"Hello, dear friend," danced the whisper from his mouth.
His breath tickled my fur. I squinted up at that face, one bearing a vague familiarity. He had a gentle voice. I delved into the depths of my memory, desperately praying to recall as I had so fervently trained myself to do. I found my claws tracing the many paths along his face.
My lapses in memory were always hard, but he never grew tired of repeating the same old answers to the same old questions. His dedication drove me into a fit of determination, although I like to believe he felt no pity for me driving myself mad. It was for him. I needed to remember. Remember what was buried in his eyes. Remember the rhythm of his heartbeat. Remember what he made me feel every time he was around. Remember what the thrill of first love was like.
"You are... you are him?" I choked. My agitated hands fell still under his eyes as they were kissed by a warm perspiration. Tears, were they not? I let one trickle down a path it had likely carved into my face by now. He drew closer to me. We were happy and warm. I felt as if nothing else could matter, but a cold thought in the back of my mind had raged forth with this bittersweet moment. I shattered the shining silence.
"What if I-"
"If you do, it will not matter to me. You will never forget my patience... I promise." His sweet sentiment achingly soothed me. I removed my hands from his face and buried my head into his chest. He drew me into a warm embrace. This temporary happiness was all I needed to keep fighting. He would leave again soon; I was sure of it. But now I would be damned if I had let it stop me. After all, frustration had never held him back from finding freedom, so who was I to let it stop me from finding happiness in him.
