Lin is not, exactly, a dragon. He may look like one, and certainly moves around in a fashion similar to an Imperial, but he is, in fact, a creature made entirely of jade. Originally one of the largest pieces of jade ever to be found, his stone was carved by a master into the form of an Imperial, as a tribute to their clan leader, who was also a green imperial who highly prized jade statues as an art form. Decorated with gold and jewels, the jade figure was considered lucky by many, and dragons would make pilgrimages just to see it for themselves. One day, however, the clan came under attack, and the jade dragon was too heavy to take with them when they fled. He remained, a relic of their occupancy, and nobody is quite sure what happened to him in the time between the fall of his clan and the arrival of a jade golem at the edges of the Starfall Isles.

Incapable of speech, breathing, or eating, Lin is a magical mystery. He appears sentient, and reacts to the clan members as if he understands what they say, but none of their mages have been able to understand exactly what magic powers his unnatural life. It's like none of the other animated objects they've seen before, with no discernible elemental alignment or magical anchor to hold the spell together. He wields no magic of his own, excepting the innate magical properties his animated body possesses; an unnatural fluidity and flexibility of the jade, material healing, and imperviousness to other magic.
