______EYES OF OLD, HEART OF NEW

Whilst the old gods blessed him with many talents, they did not bless him with a friendly face, and they painted his scales like that of the warriors of old.

Those that lay eyes on Draugr are almost always wary, at first, for he makes for quite the unsettling sight as he glides over the frozen lands, his crimson silks dancing in the miniscule breeze. But Dragur is as far from a warrior as one could become, and he's surely not anything like the creature of a nightmare like some may think, but a surprisingly friendly dragon with plenty to say.

Many questioned the choice to put him in the delicate position of managing foreign relations and alliances. But his ghastly visage is easily forgotten when Draugr opens his mouth, so exceptionally polite and well-spoken, and he's a pleasure to chat with—ask anyone and they'll confirm it. And he knows what he's doing, too, weaving together words with ease, which can be as impressive as it is baffling. Watching him convince even the most stubborn, mulish political representatives to his side is always a joy one would be foolish to miss out on.

It is a skill earned through hard work as much as it is born from talent, a peculiar twist of fate that Draugr was plenty bitter about in his young years.

Because it was unfair that he be given such a frightening visage that resulted in most dragons fleeing before he could open his mouth, yet he found weaving words so natural and enjoyable. It was a talent, a gift he was born with, and one the world did not appear to wish he use. Thankfully, the world of adults is not as harsh and unforgiving as the world of a hatchling, and Draugr was able to utilize his talents fully once he grew.

For it is one thing for a child to flee a frightening child, but another matter entirely for a grown dragon to run from another polite, civil dragon without good reason.

And Draugr learned to utilize the rules of society to his advantage fully—yes, he would make the world listen, now that he could, and he would hone his words until they were impeccable. He would be the best at what he did and, one day, they would have to acknowledge him not for his appearance, but for his achievements.

Starting out as only colleagues, few would expect such different dragons to get along so well. But while they may be different visually, they aren't so different personality wise, and Dragur is nigh on the only one willing to put up with Hrimfaxi's nonsense and Hrimfaxi is nigh on the only one willing to join with Draugr's midnight adventures. Always ends in quite the mess, but they sure do have fun.
