Biography
Obtained from Magical Hues event at Starfall '18: Deep Magic nest.
Delandre's hatch-clan believe that any dragon that hatches with runes will one day grow into them, their nature being particular to the individual. After a series of misfortunes, the magic of Delandre's became warped by the ill-will held or expressed towards him by a number of Arcane dragons. Thus the runes came to mark a curse.
Delandre is a wanderer who may be encountered in the various deserts of Sornieth, from the Southern Icefield and Shifting Expanse to the Abiding Boneyard and the Shattered Plain. Particularly the latter.
The Imperial avoids heavily populated locales, and moves on from any given place after a few days. Delandre tries to avoid drawing attention to himself, and conceals his runes. Except on his face and horns, the concealment of which would arouse suspicion. All he knows of his curse derives from what he has seen happen around him under certain circumstances. To Delandre's knowledge, so long as he doesn't linger anywhere too long, and avoids any contact with other cursed individuals, then things are no worse than they would otherwise be.
The tragedies that may transpire from failing to observe these practices vary, as, it is supposed, the curses of those the Imperial has encountered vary.
The ill-will that he accrued often was the result of unreasonable expectations. Delandre has seen dragons do many strange and nonsensical things, and finds Sornieth a strange and baffling place because of it.
With his hatch-clan displeased with him, Delandre didn't remain in the Starfall Isles long after he left the clan. Delandre considers his one life's blessing to be when he found a place he could call home: the Hearth of Heimah. A clan of magnificent hospitality. 'Heimah' is referred to as the great founder and ancestor, who gave their all to their strong foundations. Though what can be ambiguous is the fact that 'Heimah' was what a group of lost souls called themselves when they came together to make a home where the clan's lair now stands. They believe that ultimately all stand on the same earth, and there is a home for all.
The Hearth's traditions often involve lanterns. Each member has their own lantern which stays in the Hall of Lights, except for during celebrations, and when a member is separated for a time, such as Delandre, who keeps his lantern with him. A physical connection with the Hearth of Heimah.
As of that time with the Hearth, the Imperial wanders in search of a way to make it possible to stay, just in the one place, for good.
Delandre can find conversation regarding the gods uncomfortable. The Imperial considers at a not insubstantial amount of the blame for his curse to fall on the Arcanist. Whereas he gives thanks to the Windsinger for peaceful travels, and prays that the Earthshaker keep the Hearth of Heimah safe.
During Delandre's lone wanderings away from the Hearth of Heimah, he encountered a crystal comet gliding through the skies. Seeing the lone traveller, the custodians invited the Imperial into their halls, to soothe his troubles in the comet's pools, and to join them in arcane song. The custodians quickly learned of Delandre's curse, and assured him that the curse would be weakened, and perhaps someday could be cured, so long as the Imperial stayed on the comet.
Although Delandre didn't know what made them so certain, he did notice that his curse became muted as he joined the custodians' arcane choir. It's possible the soothing effect of the pools offer a clue as to a long-term solution away from the custodians of the crystal comet. Though it is easy to become swept up in the sensation of synchronising magic, and together guiding the comet's flight...
