His eyelids were heavy but he fought sleep for a while longer, his gaze seeking out Nako and making sure that nothing was threatening him. His master was such a little thing, no bigger than a firefly, and Bane didn't want anything bad to happen to him. He'd be sad if it did. He didn't want to be sad.

No one in the clan knows where he came from. One day Nako wandered off and when he came back he was riding on the head of the young imperial. Bane knows that he must have had parents wherever he'd been, but he couldn't remember them and he didn't think they mattered, anyway. Nako looked after him, and he would follow the fae captain anywhere. The clan of tears was his family now. He was happy.
