Clockwork Golem

The faint echo of a ticking clock reverberates through the air. It marks the passage of time, just as most clocks do. Perhaps, if you listen carefully, you will notice that it counts the seconds just a moment too slowly, but somehow it still manages to keep the time.

It is called Lazarus and it does not speak or move. It simply sits and watches, counting the seconds as they roll into minutes then hours. . . and days. . . and on and on it goes. “Where did it come from?” some ask, but no one can answer. No one knows.

In reality, it was created many years ago in a cathedral by the sea. It was deemed imperfect by its creator, a clockwork golem destined to be repurposed into the same scraps of metal that had been formed into clocks and taken apart so many times before. Despite his attempts, the creator could never replicate Kairos for he could never truly understand time itself.

One day, the great Imperial-shaped golem simply vanished. Stolen, is what the creator believed. . . but no one had seen an intruder and many wondered how a thief could move something so heavy on their own.

Now, the clockwork golem rests somewhere far away from the Cathedral of Eyes. It continues to keep track of the time, as it was designed to. A clock ticking away in the darkness.
