The youngest of the Crimson Order, Valentin is also the only member of the Order to have been a part of it before his vampirism. Not even he remembers what initially drew him to the ruined fortress and its undead denizens back then, and though his stay was short he found himself welcome. He even found a mate in Adelaide, her gentle instruction helping to ease his anxieties despite how quietly terrified he was of the Crimson Order in particular.

In part, it was these fears that eventually drove Valentin to seek a new home. Though he did truly love Adelaide, he knew that she could not leave... and he could not stay. He ventured first to the Sunbeam Ruins, hoping that a clan in the realm of the Lightweaver could offer him refuge, at least until he was able to find a place to permanently call home. As he roamed, he found himself growing weak, dazed by the sunlight and increasingly thirsty. No matter what he told himself, he feared that his time with the Crimson Order had left him with more than just a mate.

Days became weeks, and weeks became months as he wandered Sunbeam Ruins, his worsening condition driving him to the Hewn City. There was no more denying it, he had been infected with vampirism. Already being a dragon of low self-esteem and plagued by fear, this revelation tormented the young Obelisk. He was alone and changed, driven by instincts he didn't understand to commit acts he didn't want to do. Having never even found a new clan to call home, he realised that there was one place he could go that would still welcome him.

When Valentin finally returned to the Crimson Order, he was a mess. The sun had left his wings and paws terribly burnt, though the blood that covered him was not all his own. Refusing Aerin's aid, he immediately sought out his mate, hoping that she could be the pillar of stability he needed. Unfortunately, her own guilt left her far from capable, and though the Crimson Order as a whole has been teaching him their ways, there is still a certain fearful, feral glint in his eyes.
