The Crusader

Tesuna is, by her own words, the leader of her ""Blessed Retinue"" of soldier-missionaries. She's very friendly, almost disarmingly so, and surprisingly charismatic for a soldier. Her presence though, is indomitable. The twisting, otherworldly shards of glowing crystal that grows from her skin and the shining, carved metal that replaces the more fragile parts of her have given her an otherworldly aura... Dragons either find themselves inexplicably drawn to her, or terrified of her. It probably doesn't help the matter that she has a whole group of dragons like her, all as ethereal.

She is always eager to spread the message of her clan, (whom Cirrus is quite convinced are actually some kind of cult) and can be a little overbearing and irritating in the way she always loves to bring things back to them, with seemingly very little to say that isn't singing their or the Amber Dam's praises, but she's also very good at bringing in travellers and keeping out trouble, so Cirrus tolerates it.

The curious band of soldiers that protect the dam are a living symbol of the growing influence of the clan, and their presence here is due entirely to the kindness shown to their leader, Tesuna, in a moment of weakness.

Once upon a gloomy night, Cirrus, Kalen and Stratus were out gathering more logs and sap for the ever growing hub their home had turned into, and they stumbled upon something unusual; a fight.

There were two Imperials, locked tooth and claw. Equally sized, and equally matched. Both were bedecked in unusual armour; one in laquered plates of glittering purple crystal, and the other in heavy plate of pure black covered in spines.

They watched the two of them battle viciously, until the black-spined one fled on shredded wings, and the crystal dragon was victorious. For a moment, it stood proud, watching the horizon... And then it collapsed to the ground, the injuries of it's battle taking their toll.

Cirrus debated simply leaving it there, but they were rather close to the dam and having a dying dragon on the road would probably deter visitors, so she instructed Stratus and Kalen to bring the dragon inside so they could see about patching them up.

The dragon's wounds were quite extensive, and even with Cirrus' magic and Dawn's tinctures, it took several days before the dragon was awake again, and several weeks after that before they were healed enough to stand unassisted, and to explain themselves.

She told the clan that her name was Tesuna, and that she was on an urgent quest to ""deliver her people from the oblivion night by finding the arcane scroll of everlight and using it to imbue their soldiers with the knowledge and protection they needed to be able to fight their foe."" In saving her, they had surely saved her clan, and when she had succeeded in her quest, she would tell her illustrious leader all that they had done for her. Surely, after such kindness, they would not mind to lend her a map of this land and some food for the journey?

Of course, nobody had any idea what she was talking about.

Cirrus was not entirely convinced that letting this strange and dangerous dragon just wander off again was a particularly good idea, but they couldn't exactly keep her in the dam forever, so they agreed to this, giving her what she needed and letting her continue on her ""quest"", just to get her out of their way.

---

Many months passed, and the strange dragon all but slipped from the clan's memory...
At least, until she returned.
It was hard to even tell she was the same dragon again. Her hide had split apart into jagged spines of glowing crystal, the edges of her wings replaced with glittering metal, with a halo of resplendent, burning arcane energy surrounding her warped head.
As if that wasn't enough, she was followed by four other dragons, each themselves glowing with both crystals and halos of magical light, carrying banners and chanting merrily as they marched along the well-worn path along the north west bank of the dam.
That was not exactly something easy to ignore.

They arrived at the dam, and handed the nearest resident a wax-sealed note.

They brought it to Cirrus, who opened it very hesitantly. She didn't know what she was expecting, but it certainly wasn't the politely worded letter she found.

To the Brave Dragons of the Amber Dam Clan

Your kindness ensured the survival of our clan, and in return I shall ensure the survival of yours. With this letter you will find a small retinue of our soldiers, one of which I believe you are well accquainted with. They will follow your orders until death, or such a time as our cause are in a great crisis once again and we need to recall them.

We hope that together in this time of peace and safety we can flourish, and that despite our differences and the distance between us, we might come to understand and support each other's causes. Noble hearts will be all that remain to burn when the shade returns. Together, we will be blinding.

Best Regards,

Novaburn, Illustrious Leader of The Noble Warriors of The Everburning Crystalheart

Cirrus was not sure what to make of this. Either this was some kind of elaborate plan to infiltrate and tear apart her clan, or- perhaps even more concerning -that mad dragon had genuinely been embarking on an actual epic quest for power, and they'd inadvertently ended up helping out some far-flung arcane clan of dragons just as mad as her.

She had half a mind to send them away. They were dangerous warriors, with unknown loyalties.
But, then again... If this was genuine, then that would mean that she was being gifted five warriors to do with as she wished. Basically, five free mercenaries. Having dragons to patrol the paths along the dam would make them safer for trade, and thus mean more traders would come. And saying that they had armed guards would encourage visitors to behave themselves...

So, Cirrus allowed them to stay, though she's always kept a careful eye on them all.
