This Spiral is Vio! He's one of the bouncers at EmberGlow's mysterious bar and he does his job quite well. Sometimes he helps the strange bartender move shop by lending some of his own magic, though usually he is politely rejected on that matter. When the bar is closed or he has a day off, Vio disappears for the day. Though nobody has managed to follow him, if you ask EmberGlow he will simply say, "To pay respects to an old friend.". A purple Spiral snakes through the treetops, taking care not to snap branches and draw attention to himself. He avoids the ground so that he doesn't leave a trail, and the air is too risky for this trip. A lot of dragons are looking for him, but he can't allow himself to get caught today. Today he has a promise to keep. Something glints below, drawing his eyes to a small bottle hidden in the brambles. A smile works its way across the Spiral's maw and he quickly scrambles down to it. Gently prying open the top and removing the pink ribbon, he plucks a piece of birch from within the glass and hastily reads it. His brow furrows and a look of desperation replaces his smile. He shoots off, rocketing through the trees and sending branches plummeting to the ground. The reckless dash ends with a skidding halt as the Spiral ends up outside a hollowed tree. Rusty patches decorate the ground and some dyed the grey wood of the old tree red, for what laid inside was already dead. . . It has been a long time since then, but the Spiral returns to the tree every chance he gets. Flowers have been lovingly placed and grown around the dead tree, their vines taking root and climbing ever higher with each visit, and a collection of colored bottles catch the fading sunlight as they gently swing on the branches. He carefully lights a candle and places it just outside the fissure in the tree. His purple scales start to blend in with the encroaching shadows and he talks softly to something just inside the hollow. Tears fall to the ground as he whispers a song he learned long ago, "Oh Mary, contrary, how does your garden grow? Don't leave me, please don't be the seventh maiden in a row. . ."  |
