The sun burns down on an open courtyard, which is packed with animals running amok. At the centre are a Guardian and an Imperial frantically trying to corral them.
"You there!" One of them shouts towards you. "Mind giving us a hand? If you can catch one, you can keep them!"
Do you help them?
"You there!" One of them shouts towards you. "Mind giving us a hand? If you can catch one, you can keep them!"
Do you help them?
Clan mother Amphitrite takes the chaos in the courtyard as an opportunity to teach the young Chlorophyll the art of catching one's target without injuring it... So far Chlorophyll seems to be getting it. She caught...
Chlorophyll's jaw dropped at the chaos before her. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" she asked warily at Amphitrite.
Amphitrite smiled. "You aren't nervous, are you?" she teased gently.
"No!" said Chlorophyll quickly, coaxing a laugh out of Amphitrite.
"Alright then, I believe you. Now," she said in a more serious tone. "The trick with catching a familiar is to understand what it respects. Some are curious creatures; content to follow you if you make an offer or behave strangely. Others are fighters, and yes, they may need to be defeated in a small battle to show them who's boss before you can take them home.
"But some animals just want food, and they'll be happy to follow you if they know they can get some from you. So here, take this." Amphitrite handed Chlorophyll a small bag of jerky. "You may find this useful."
"Well said," came a third voice from behind them. It was a Guardian with a net, beaming at them both. "I feel like I should have been taking notes."
Amphitrite smiled at the newcomer. "Well met, but I think we're alright, thank you."
Yusra laughed. "I think you're the first person to say that today and I've actually believed them. If that changes, just give me a shout though," she said warmly before walking away.
Amphitrite nudged Chlorophyll gently. "What are you waiting for then?"
Chlorophyll stumbled slightly, shot one last glance at an encouraging Amphitrite, and strode into the fray. She held a strip of jerky out in front of her like a shield as she walked, barely catching any attention from the animals around.
There were a couple of attempts, but no successes, until a bright purple lion-like creature spun back around and sniffed the air. Chlorophyll held her breath as it moved closer, nose twitching at the jerky she held in her outstretched paw. It slowly started to nibble at the outstretched offer, and Chlorophyll felt herself relax slightly.
When it finished the strip, the bantam fangar looked at her expectantly. When she didn't get the message, it moved closer and started to nose at the bag of jerky that was tucked in her other arm.
She laughed, but gave it another piece. She noticed that Amphitrite was coming up behind her.
"Well done, Chlorophyll!" she praised, and Chlorophyll beamed.
"Can I keep it?"
Amphitrite smiled. "I don't see why not."
