Iola
Princess of the Thorn Kingdom
Princess of the Thorn Kingdom, an ancient realm devoted to the Lightweaver. Iola is very young but is blessed with powerful light magic, and as firstborn daughter to the royal family she is destined to become High Priestess. Iola's entire life has been rigorous mental training and learning the way of the Lightweaver. Unfortunately a rotten bunch of dragons cursed the entire kingdom, turning all the dragons into mice and other lowly animals. The evil dragons then began to feast on the poor citizens of the realm. A visiting water knight named Cirrus whisked away the young princess, now a mouse, as fast as he could in hopes of protecting her. Iola now travels with the cloud knight as he searches for a way to reverse the curse. Also super rambley description of Iola's side of the relationship Iola is afraid of Cirrus at first, the Knight is so stiff, rude and unyielding. He is constantly berating her for walking too slow, being too loud, acting too sensitive. Having just lost her entire family Iola cries a lot. Cirrus seems disgusted with her, which only makes Iola cry more. Her whole life she tried to be the perfect daughter, the perfect priestess, the most gifted of light mages. And now, cursed, she has lost her family, her temple, and her magic. Iola is lost. Despite all this Iola is still a child. When they visit a village she dances with the locals (cirrus hates this, she can't be seen in public). For a moment she forgets her troubles and laughs. She pulls Cirrus into the group and dances with him. He's so stiff and embarrassed but he tries... sort of. Iola then starts to notice small things. Cirrus always leaves more of their precious food scraps for her. Cirrus always tries to make her camp bed more comfortable. Cirrus hides all his cuts and bruises. Iola sees these small kindnesses and understands there is more to this angry man. She decides to try her best to help them, to listen to his instructions better, to lighten his load when possible. Cirrus starts to embrace the fact that Iola is a child, and gifts her small toys or stories. Iola appreciates the gestures. He tries to be less strict when they visit small towns. Iola inquires into his life and learns how dull and rigorous the life of a knight is. She starts telling Cirrus he should quit and travel the world with her. She's always wanted to leave the little bubble that was her Light Temple. And over time Iola accepts Cirrus as a new father figure, one that lets her explore her own interests while also teaching her how to navigate the world. |
