I've been travelling for 3 days already, and my legs and wings are killing me, yet i've only just reached the border of the Tangled Wood. How much further til i reach Starfall Isle? How many more rocks getting stuck between my claws and bugs flying into my mouth? I haven't even reached the Scarred Wasteland yet and i'm already dreading days i'll have to spend traveling through that wretched region. Andrine says the smell is worse than that old Greatshell corpse we found in the back of the larder.

This was a stupid idea, I'm sure the book would've been fine traveling through courier. But i couldn't take the risk! What if something had happened to it in transit? This book is the most important thing to happen in my research since Daggum uncovered that ancient tool-set!
Curse my careful nature and anxieties.

This is getting ridiculous! This map of the Scarred Wasteland doesn't at all match what I'm seeing, there are roads that don't exist! Paths that aren't mapped! My supplies are running low and I'm completely lost. If only Artemis was here, she always had a good sense of direction.
Not only that, but I've sprained one of my wings and can't fly. I've done my best to bandage it up, but I'm not hopeful.

(And Andrine certainly wasn't wrong about the smell, UGH! i feel like my nose is never going to work again)

Well, I'm still alive, somehow. I found a cave that i've set up camp in for now. Or at least, in the mouth of the cave. it does go deeper, but I don't dare venture into it, lest i find the source of the noises i hear at night...
As for food, I've been very careful to only eat things that don't look like they'll infect me. Yellow-throated Sparrowmouse', Ultramel Amphitheres, Hooded Dodos, etc.

I've also been keeping a fire going, hoping someone who knows the area will spot it and be able to help me, but it's difficult to tell the difference between the fire smoke and the steam coming from the rancid pits that dot the landscape.

Finally, a chance to rest and write again. I have much to tell. I just hope one day i'll get the chance to tell it to more than just this journal

A few nights ago my camp was attacked by a herd of Undying Featherbacks. Apparently while foraging I'd wandered into their territory unknowingly. I was forced to flee into the cave, barely able to see in front of me, but too terrified to stop and look behind to see if I was being followed. I ran for what felt like hours, getting lost in the winding tunnels.

I must have hit my head on something and passed out, because the next thing i remember is waking up with a terrible headache. I've been wandering these caves ever since, looking for an exit. I'm so hungry, but the only thing to can find to eat are those little pink mushrooms that are growing on anything and everything. the walls, the floors, the stalactites and stalagmites, the lizards, the bugs. they're everywhere, and i fear that if i eat them they might start to grow on me too...

I Don't know how long I've been here now. Days? Weeks? I haven't seen even a glimpse of sun, my only light coming from my own magic. There's no sign of any exits, and i think i'm going in circles. In fact, i know i am. I've been leaving scratch marks whenever i take a turn, and now i'm seeing them everywhere.

I've been eating those lizards with the mushrooms on them. They aren't half bad, and lots of them tend to hang around near water, so i'm not about to die of thirst. Although the mushrooms do make my mind a little fuzzy though... i'm going to try picking them off of the next lizard I find.

My mind is changing, going. I find my thoughts interrupted with sudden strong desires, and I'm struggling with basic motor skills. I think it's those mushroosm. I should've studied them more before shoving them in my maw, but I was too hungry to think straight. Was it some kind of parasitic fungus?
