"Umber!! UMBER!!!" UmberSky wearily turns her hooded head towards the calling of her name. Weaving through a crowd of wizards' apprentices was Zeno. The newly adopted imperial was barely out of the nest, and her presence brought out amused glances. Zeno's shouts were filled with excitement as she ran to catch up with UmberSky. She miraculously avoids tripping over the coattails of her cloak and grins up at UmberSky for waiting. "Umber!! Pumpkin is taking me berry-picking! We were wondering if you wanted to come along! This might be our last chance before the bushes freeze over."
UmberSky smiles and warmly nuzzles her junior. "I'm afraid I cannot spare even an hour this afternoon. Siorys has assigned me a new book to read by tomorrow's session."
Zeno's eyes widen before her expression turns to horror. "An entire book?! That's cruel!"
Chuckling, the older replies, "Oh, it's not that bad! The read is quite intriguing! Supposedly, this book was written by someone who has been outside of our plains! It discusses the composition of our Veil. Apparently, a delicate parallel is necessary between ancient arcane and our current druidry to keep its walls up! Did you know that the our Matriarch Haerena was there for the first summoning of the Veil? There is even a possibility that she erected it herself! Meditation of at least four moons, many components both mystical and blessed are required, and not to mention the sheer amount of magical concentration within the caster! It's a ridiculous idea that one dragon alone could create such a thing! But if it were true...well..." Realizing her waning smile from the worry in Zeno's eyes, Umber shakes herself and breathes out, "Thank Pumpkin for me for the invitation, please. But I need to finish my reading! Otherwise, Siorys is going to start singing his dusty poetry at me again!"
This brings back laughter. "Okay! May the winds carry you, Umber!! Or carry those boring old poems out of reach on them!" Zeno leaves with a skip.
Umber watches after Zeno for a moment. The wind catches in her feathers and she expands them outward to welcome the invisible force of their god.
Her mind thinks again on the idea that Matriarch Haerena herself placed them within the Veil. She shudders. Matriarchs should have great power bestowed to them from Aulrai. Yet still, such a feat would utterly erase an individual from the plane of existence. The possibility that Haerena could achieve something such....and live was terrifying.
