Biography

List of Past lairs is at the bottom! Add yours plus the date she arrived.

If ever you feel the urge to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her home to Calib's Nest instead, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here.

Uh-oh, looks like this stripy little fae wandered a little too far from her lair (#10794, Calib), and now she's off to see the world!

...and by wander, we mean literally...

Ascension never listened to her elders. Stay near the nest, they said. Don't wander off into the thorns alone, they said. Pfft. Boring old fogies. She decided she would go wherever she wanted!

One day while wandering, she noticed a glint of red in the darkness: a mirror with golden eyes and right red wings was walking alone, seemingly lost. She tilted her head in confusion: why was a light dragon in shadow's domain? She flittered over to a branch and called to him, curious to know more. His name was Balthazar, and his was a tale of longing, sorrow, and long, weary roads. Something stirred in Ascension 's heart. She needed to help him, so they started walking together, wandering through her home territory. In time they fell in love.

Ascension was happy with Balthazar, but something wasn't right. That old exciting feeling of disobedience had turned into full fledged yearning to see the world outside of the dimly lit forest and tangled briars! After some talking, the two set out together to see the world and maybe even start a family of their own...

They stopped in a lair of Shadows, Ascension heavy with eggs. Their greeting was welcoming and she felt safe enough to brood. Still, as soon as her eggs hatched she began to fidget again. She was not ready to settle so she consulted with Balthazar again and readied to leave.

She had to indulge her dearest Balthazar when he announced, with child-like glee, that he was going to show her his home. Not his clan, no - he seemed still too upset to do that - but the searing lands of the Ashfall Waste. He was so exuberant that he hardly noticed the dangerously silent cold war that was splitting the clan they settled with in two. But the half of the clan that met them were a jovial bunch. Lucky them, having the freedom to come and go from their home as they pleased! They made fast friends, and she soon forgot her wariness and let the warmth of the land of the Flamecaller envelop them.

Soon, she found herself once again expecting another large clutch. She expected her brooding time to be calm and quiet, as with her prior clutch. It would have been, if it weren't for one single Spiral, a sinuous male that shone with a silent fury. He told her many vicious things about the inner clan. She wanted to believe they were lies, but she couldn't wash away the image of the inner clan Patriarch, a sweet-tongued Mirror named Ghoul, devouring her hatchlings whole... When her eggs finally stirred, she could not bring herself to even look at the four little ones, two delicate but strong female Faes and two quiet but quick male Mirrors. Her uncharacteristic silence frightened Balthazar, she knew, but she couldn't bear to tell him what she had heard. He arranged for them to leave, nevertheless. While they were preparing for their departure, their new friends loading them up with food and trinkets, a stonily quiet Wildclaw - mate to the exiled patriarch, Vagabond - spoke to Ascension. She said very little as she took the hatchlings under her own wing, but her words rang in Ascension's head even after they had left. Fire burns brightest with the Shadows.

She and her mate traveled down through Cloudsong and settled with a mismatched wind clan in the Reedcleft Ascent. When the clan's five faes rushed to greet her, she could barely find the energy to return their hellos. Why couldn't they see she was not in the mood for this headache? She wanted to tell Balthazar they needed to move on right away, but already he was deep in conversation with the only resident male mirror. They were both so tired from their long flight... she supposed it wouldn't be fair to insist he take off with her again before they'd at least had adequate rest.

When she and Balthazar arrived at the lair of Disconcerto, Ascension immediately rolled her eyes when the many hatchlings here rushed over to them and asked questions about their journeys. Luckily, Balthazar was pretty good when dealing with young ones, so Ascension pattered over to this clan's members to chit-chat. A kind blue Imperial noticed her and allowed her to sit upon the Imperial's head. Good thing the Imperial was also a female, since Ascension felt a wave of dizziness while resting in the Imperial's warm fur and realized that she once more had another batch of eggs within her. The Imperial kindly offered Ascension some food and built a warm nest for the swaying Fae out of her own blue fur.

The Imperial was just as delighted as Ascension when they saw her newborn hatchlings, and delicately tied a red silk ribbon around Ascension's neck as a baby shower gift, so to speak. So when the Imperial had her first hatchling, Ascension of course congratulated her and shared some tips about hatchling care.

Life was happy for some time after that. Ascension and the Imperial chatted with each other each day and did everything together just like best friends, and she was happy until something terrible happened: the Imperial's rowdy boy decided to wander off to meet the Icewarden by himself, which usually leads to the terrible fate of getting lost and eventually freezing to death. The Imperial and her mate were stricken; they hoped that their child would survive, but when a severe winter storm started approaching the floes, they left the clan in a desperate search for their child. They never returned, and instead were slain by minions of the Plaguebringer as they tried to spread their disease over Sornieth.

Ascension was nearly heartbroken after that incident, with only Balthazar able to comfort her. She no longer wanted to stay here; every time she looked at the tufts of blue fur that still remained in her nest, the bittersweet memories would come back and fill her mind. When she and Balthazar finally decided that it was time to leave, Ascension took one last look at the lair that she had stayed at for two moons, then turned away, eager to move on.

Ascension had been in the Plaguebringer's domain before visting Shanncrafter, but this.......

The memories rushed at her, and the fae settled dizzily on Balthazar, who put a protective arm around her. He knew all too well the trauma she had been through. It was a bad idea to return to the domain of the Plaguebringer. Even after finding a new, relatively young clan to stay with, Ascension had her misgivings. It did not help that the clan leader, a mirror female, was wary of them, as they were far more adept at battling than her.

Ascension had wanted to leave immediately but Balthazar seemed to be enjoying himself and she found that she would soon have another clutch of hatchlings to care for. She spent most of her days among the clan's two plain faes, both eager to hear news from the rest of the world. They were good company, Erebus and Jasperite, and Ascension found many friends in that plague clan. maybe plague isn't so bad after all? but the memory of her friend still haunted her.

After wandering around the pair in a daze, she stumbled into Nyx's (the unfriendly clan leader) corner. She apologized profusely but was surprised when Nyx asked her to stay for a while. Nyx let her perch on her head as she carried her to the nesting grounds. Both of them talked for a while and found that they had much in common, and they became firm friends. however, after a week in the clan, Ascension was ready to leave. Scars don't heal easily, especially for her.

Following Balthazar, they stopped at a small wind clan. With the clan leaders permission, they decided to stay, at least for a while. While Balthazar took up hunting and guarding the small clan, Ascension decided to help her good friend, a wildclaw called Knowings, gather information by mapping the surrounding land. It was a difficult task for a small Fae, for the lands were filled with dangers.

After a long and pleasant stay here, Ascension laid three eggs. She felt at home among the many new mothers surrounded by chirping younglings. Problems soon began to manifest, however, as those chirping younglings came with hungry bellies. The territory was too small for them all! She anxiously hunted and gathererd what she could, but there were always more mouths than food to fill them. In the end a meeting was held: some dragons would need to leave. Balthazar volunteered. Ascension followed.

Ascension didn't want to go home. She was so bored there! Unfortunately, Balthazar's old home was now abandoned leaving only once choice. The Shadows were too familiar, even though the dragons now lived deeper in the wood than they used to. The nests dug spiraling patterns into the earth that she found disorienting. Wherever she belonged, her birth nest didn't seem to fit. It was time to find a new clan to call home... again.
