Fluffy Oceanides
by Spassow

Fluffy Oceanides was only discovered very recently since they live in the outer ocean that surrounds the mainlands (the seas at the edges of the map). While they originated from Southern Icefield, their ancestors had long since left that barren land to get away from intense fighting over resources between clans, and resided in the outer sea where no dragons live. To adapt to this life in the sea, they mostly keep their winter fur for warmth and had developed to excrete a thick oily substance onto the coat to repel water; other places like face and paws were covered in scales instead. Though their young were still closer to their landbound cousins and cannot live underwater until their oil glands and scales developed, so they always come to shores or shallow waters to breed.

They migrate and follow an ancient route from south to north and back, pursuing wherever food is available. They also adapted to eating not just plants but also fish and shellfishes. Since tundras have very short memory span but excellent olfactory memory let them able to follow that route everytime. The runes on their bodies reflects light and are distinctive to each family, and it’s a way to tell which family they belong to even if they are strangers.

They keep their clan history etched on shells and stones and hang them around their neck. These history-keeping trinkets are enhanced by magic and can last for centuries and can keep a decent amount of information.
