Galti was born to Vaylliat and Raito, alongside his brothers Vedhyr and Irsher. For a couple of weeks, his little life was perfect, until the night of a terrible blizzard - later speculated to be magical in origin - that separated his parents. Vaylliat left Galti and his brothers hidden by a snowdrift, and went back for their father.
Unfortunately for him, a scaleback snatched Irsher almost immediately after his mother left. Baby Galti and Vedhyr, not understanding what was going on, but too excited to sleep, scampered around, exploring the land... and getting promptly lost. How both hatchlings survived into their teenage years remain a mystery. Galti claims it to be the Icewarden's work, but no one believes him.
They became nomads, not really remembering much of their birth clan. It was a good life, and both enjoyed it. They had each other, and didn't need for anything else.
One day, however, they found themselves at the Reclaimer's Glacier by accident, having gotten lost in a heavy storm. The wind grew colder, to the point where neither could move. They huddled against the cold as best as they could, but when the sun finally rose, only Galti remained, curled under his wing. Vedhyr had used his body to shield his brother- his charge- from the cold, sacrificing his life to keep him safe.
Galti prodded and poked, but Vedhyr would not wake up. He was confused- his memory loss was even worse than most tundras- and he couldn't understand why Vedhyr was not responding. Worst of all, though his instincts told him to keep moving, he was terrified of forgetting Vedhyr. He couldn't, right? Not his brother, the person he most loved in the world?
Galti slowly made his way back to the Cloudscrape Crags, this time alone. The more he walked, the more he felt like he was forgetting, and it made him angry and scared. Suddenly, he whipped around and raced back to the Glacier. He could not remember why anymore, but he was angry, and he wanted the Glacier to return what had been taken from him.
He was stopped by a pillar of ice.
It smelled weird, like freshly fallen snow, but it moved. It did not talk, just gently pushed him back towards the mountains. When they got back, Galti stubbornly held on to it. He could not know why, but this stranger brought him peace, and he did not want to be alone.
So, the rechlr that once was his brother followed him.
