Plague Oracle

Leonidas hides his face, so it's very hard to determine his age. To his own admission, he has been studying Plague divination for his whole life, and he has mastered so many methods it's only right to believe that it's been some time. On the other hand, he could be young, and just incredibly talented with divination. It's very, very hard to tell. Even his voice, rasping and whispered, grants no hints.

He has been traveling with Sadachbia for the idea that he might learn something about divination that he doesn't already know. His specialty is Plague, but there's nothing that says that Plague divination can't take from other methods, and become even more accurate, even more useful, even more powerful. Leonidas believes in the ultimate doctrine of adaptability: everything can be better, even something proven by time to be perfect.

h i s t o r y

Leonidas shares next to nothing about his history. He has been studying Plague divination for a long time, and a portion of that meant living directly next to the Wyrmwound, exploring the reactions of objects when dipped in it, bottling concentrated illness, and ostensibly studying under a master of divination. Leonidas reveals no details about this supposed master, nor does he confirm their existence. It's just as easy to believe that he's entirely self-taught.

While his history is unclear, his talent shines through. He must have learned these methods, and he learned them well. Does anything else really matter?

An oracle who has dedicated his life to Plague divination, Leonidas has a few distressing methods in his repertoire. Casting bones is perhaps the most common; he has a set of delicate bones that he will throw and read the positions of to answer simple questions. It only gets stranger from there.

He will read scars -- they inform much of a dragon's past, and, according to Leonidas, just as much about their future. He reads the way veins lie underneath a dragon's skin, but true vein reading involves bleeding, and seeing the trail the blood traces. He knows how to read the way something reacts to being dipped in the Wyrmwound, though he hasn't tried that since leaving Plague lands. He knows how to read the entrails of a creature he has killed.

Perhaps the strangest, he carries small bottled illnesses with him. He will intentionally infect himself with one of those, and interpret the dreams he has in the fever-haze.

His methods are remarkably accurate; he is, in his own mind, to be the best Plague oracle in Sornieth. He has mastered so many methods, but he is always seeking more. He can never stop growing, never stop learning, never stop adapting. To do so would be against the very nature of his flight.

Magic

Future-Sight

A gift granted to him by the Tidelord, and previously Sadachbia's one and only purpose: he can see futures ahead of him like a row of mirrors, and he can peer into individual ones to predict the happenings of the world. The only future he cannot tell is his own, because he was never meant to look for it.

False Life

Sadachbia is sustained by Albali's necromancy, and these powers must be refreshed often to keep his body in working order. Sadachbia keeps close to Albali when he can, just to be safe. Because his body is already dead, he cannot die in conventional ways. So long as he has Albali's magic, he is functionally immortal.

Connections

Albali

The necromancer that keeps Sadachbia alive, and his closest friend. Sadachbia has learned so much about the world because of what Albali has taught him, and while he used to view Albali as a means to an end, a dragon to be used to extend his life, he has grown over time to be very fond of his necromancer. Caring used to be an unsettling feeling, but Sadachbia has come to enjoy it.

Melampus

Sadachbia is no teacher, but Melampus won't let that stop him. He is learning by example, sticking close to Sadachbia in hopes that he'll learn something about seeing the future. Sadachbia has grown accustomed to his presence, and would find it stranger if Melampus wasn't around. Sadachbia is very impressed with Melampus's experimental spells and unconventional divination methods.

Leonidas

One of the followers Sadachbia picked up in his travels, Leo is a many-eyed Plague oracle who hides his face. He is more familiar than Sadachbia at the strange and vile ways Plague oracles divine the future, and has agreed, for a time, to allow Sadachbia to observe.

Sadachbia is interested to see if Plague divination shares any similarities with his own methods.

Shallowspeaker

When Sadachbia finally found the destination his dreams have been guiding him to, Shallowspeaker was waiting there -- not just for him, but for the others as well. As far as Sadachbia can tell, she is truly a dragon, but she has future sight just as accurate as his own was when he lacked physical form.

And she was waiting for all of them in their new lair.
