vir second earliest memory is the sky behind that face, choked with smoke, flickering red hot.

the river carried vir, tucked safe into a shell basket, far beyond the furthest reach of the destruction. when ve finally washed ashore ve began to wander, and the longer ve wandered the more ve thought. the more ve thought, the more certain ve was: ve had not been cast away to protect vir from the disaster, but to stop it. the source of the disaster was vir and vir alone.

don't you see, ve hissed to the gathering party that had stopped vir in vir path. the curse is not just within me, it's bleeding through my hide and my feathers! i am but the thinnest of shells covering the destruction!

sakai responded that opal isn't even that rare a gene, nitwit.
is trying very hard to convince everyone to hate vir but not succeeding. would die for anyone who's remotely nice to vir. complains constantly. chronic case of the dramatic monologues.
