Biography

The Lucky One

"GET BACK TO WORK!" The Stormcatcher screamed, voice like a thunderclap. Hot blue lightning streaked across the perpetually dark sky of the Shifting Expanse.
"Dang it!" A small spiral dragon yelped, his body coiling uncomfortably into a knot at the sound. He glared up at the sky, watching as his ruling deity's wings opened and he soared over the Shifting Expanse, surveying all of his tireless workers of the lightning farm.
"It's okay, man." The spiral's coworker, a ridgeback, murmured. "He does that a lot. There's no need to be so jumpy."
"I wish he wouldn't," the spiral spat, now trying to untie the knots in his flexible body. "We're already working hard enough as it is!"
"I know, Bizztik," the Ridgeback, evidently the more rational and calm of the two, replied. "But breaktime is just around the corner. All we have to do is take out the full batteries from the farm and replace them with these new ones." he flicked a claw behind him, gesturing to the batteries in question. Each one resembled a bogsneak dragon, and all were a pure, dark blue in color with a clear neck and upper belly. The batteries all moved by themselves, their huge limbs moving slowly, but autonomously. Their eyes glowed red, indicating that their electricity reserves were low.
The batteries were so realistic that they could have easily been mistaken for a group of very slow and very unintelligent group of Bogsneaks.
"What's the deal with these new batteries, anyway?" Bizztik growled suspiciously. "They look so...real! It's kind of creeping me out..."
"I dunno," the ridgeback, whose name was Crypt, replied, with a shrug of his shoulders. "I'd have to be inside of the Stormcatcher's mind to know for sure."
"I don't like them," Bizztik growled.
"Hey. At least we don't have to carry the batteries on our backs anymore," Crypt turned his long neck and looked over his shoulders at the approaching batteries. "These have some sort of motion-sensing technology. Now all we have to do is lead the way, and they'll follow us."
"Yeah, I guess," snorted Bizztik. Crypt was right in that regard. Before these new, self-moving batteries, Bizz and Crypt had had to change the batteries themselves. It had been grueling work, especially for Bizztik, who had always been on the weaker side.
But despite the clear benefits that came with the new batteries, the other dragon couldn't shake off the bad feeling that followed him as he flew ahead to the nearest spire.
...

"Bizz. Bizz. Wake up!"
Bizztik's bright blue eyes snapped open at Crypt's voice. He yawned and stretched his body, causing his long spine to crack. "Morning already?" he complained.
"Yeah. Well, only technically. It's still dark out. I just got an order from Supervisor Delta. He says that we have to check on those batteries."
Bizztik was checking on the time. "WHAT?!" he exclaimed, both at the outrageous hour and at Delta's command. "But it's before hours! Why can't he ask someone else to do it?!"
"I dunno," shrugged Crypt. "But you know how Delta is. It's best to just do what he asks, you know?"
Bizztik hopped mournfully out of his bed. "All right, all right. I'm up. Come on, Crypt. The faster we check on whatever he thinks is wrong, the faster we can get back to bed."
The pair of dragons groggily walked down to tower D-15, the closest one to their quarters. As they approached it, they could see the battery at its base. Its neck was raised to its highest point, its head and neck fins unfurled. Its usually dark blue body was shot through with electric blue streaks, and its clear neck was crackling with the power it had stored thus far. For a moment, the two dragons were mesmerized by the sight. And then Bizztik spoke up.
"Uh, Crypt?"
"Hmm?"
"Is it supposed to be... sparking... like that?"
Crypt turned his electric blue gaze to the spire. Like Bizz said, it was indeed sparking a bit.
"Hmm." This must have been what Delta wanted them to investigate. "Maybe there's a loose wire somewhere."
Bizztik grumbled. "Is this what Delta wanted us to look at? We aren't engineers! Why us?!"
"Oh, be quiet," Crypt scoffed, tired of Bizztik's complaining. "You were the one who said that the faster we fix this thing, the sooner we can get back in bed. Come on, let's go check it out." The big dragon took off into the air.
Bizz got to his feet to take off after his friend, but he paused, looking over at the battery. The bogsneak-shaped battery's eyes and blue circuit patterns were flashing- glitching, almost.
"Uh, Crypt-"
Just then, a streak of lightning shot down from the clouds above the spire. Attracted to the tall metal posts, the lightning shot sideways and struck its mark. Bizz yelped and jumped to the side as the electricity grounded, causing the battery to glow solidly again. As Bizztik watched in horror, the metal Bogsneak's eyes turned towards him. And they saw.
Crypt fell to the ground, unconscious from the massive shock. And as Bizztik watched in horror, the battery began to move on its own.
It stretched its neck, turning its head from side to side as if surveying its surroundings before focusing its gaze on Bizztik. Slowly, lumberingly, the battery reached out one of its fully articulated legs and took a step towards the other dragon.
It paused, then blinked its electric-blue eyes, and its metal face curled up into a glowing smile.
"Hi!" it said. "My name is Farain. Who are you?"

Farain is a simple Bogsneak, concerned with only the simplest pleasures in life- but he is far from a normal dragon. Farain was originally a new type of battery invented by the Stormcatcher, designed to be able to hold more energy and be more portable. Unfortunately, the Stormcatcher accidentally gave Farain life and total autonomy when creating him, causing a bit of a problem.
Farain is very curious about the world around him. He is also very naive. Even though he appears to be an adult male Bogsneak, his maturity level is that of a mere hatchling's. He doesn't always know how things work in the dragon world, which sometimes gets him into trouble.
Farain also does not eat; he runs on electricity. When low on power, he will appear less energetic than normal and will move slowly or jerkily. It's a good thing that he can simply recharge by having lightning strike him.
Farain can also discharge an electric shock from his body to defend himself or attack other dragons. However, this depletes his battery, so he uses it sparingly.
