Biography
He comes to the clan as a hatchling from the realm of Light, newly born. He is accompanied on the journey by two grown Coatls, both female, who care for him and tell him, though the Southern Icefield may be cold, they are sure to be welcome.
He grows up surrounded by ice and snow, and the memory of the Sunbeam Ruins fades until it seems like nothing more than a far-off dream. The clan is loosely organized; for the most part, each dragon minds their own business, and that suits him just fine. Soon after arriving, the Coatls both find mates, find their own happiness. He watches them and contemplates. He is not lonely; rather, he prefers to be alone.
“Don’t worry,” says the pink Pearlcatcher, one of the clan’s founders. “Your turn will come soon enough. You can’t rush love.”
Big words for one who separated from her first mate, he thinks but does not say. Later, when she leaves the Guardian for a pale young Fae, he thinks again that she has little right to speak of love.
A long time passes. As the clan grows, they find themselves in need of more space, and so they uproot themselves and move, several times, further and further south. He makes it his job to mind the hatchlings, making sure they don’t get stepped on or crashed into.
“Well, he’s not a bad dragon,” he hears one of the Spirals saying one day. “He looks a lot scarier than he is. He just doesn’t talk much.”
It’s a waste of breath to talk when there is nothing to talk about. What need is there for words when actions can already speak volumes?
But none of them understand, and so he remains alone, up until he comes across the young Coatl tending the gardens in one corner of the lair.
It is love at first sight.
