Ally

The studious Arcane dragon known as Ally is, according to herself, at least, an amateur archeologist and anthropologist specializing in studies of the Second Era. This, according to everyone else, essentially amounts to finding bits of scrap and staring at them very intently.

Originally from a nest in the Starfall Isles, Ally traveled (read: was kicked out) to the Shifting expanse to further her studies of the Second Era, and the mythical beings who thrived during it-a people whose handiwork is rumored to be echoed in the machinery used by the dragons of the Lightning Flight. She spends most of her time either out on relic-gathering or research missions, some of which last days or even weeks, or holed up in her private corner of the lair observing and recording. This obsession with the Second Age likely stems from her Charge: a thick, mostly intact volume of human writings, likely one of the last of its kind. She is obsessed with finding the links between its archaic runes and modern-day draconic script, and perhaps one day translating the book fully, exposing the priceless knowledge within. She carries the tome with her everywhere, and gets a quite insane look in her eyes if one dares to even look at it for too long.

Most of the clan consider her a maddragon; and, after seeing her private chamber, it is hard to blame them. Countless sheets of parchment line the walls, layered over each other in a wallpaper of chaos, each containing complex diagrams, frantically scrawled notes, and lines of bizarre, non-draconic glyphs with efforts at translation underneath. Dozens of artifacts – splinters of metal and pieces of old wire, mostly – lay across a work table with large magnifying apparatuses focused on them. And in the center of it all is Ally, bustling to and fro, bags under her eyes, muttering under her breath about missing links and Second Age pictography.

Ally isn’t antisocial, per say; quite the contrary, she will talk for hours on end about ancient metal-forging processes and Second-Age linguistic patterns for hours on end to any brave or foolish enough to bring up the topic. There are simply few who will form a long-term relationship with her, or even talk to her, frequently absent as she is from the lair, and she is perfectly content in solitude. Company or no company, Ally will happily while away the hours studying her artifacts and the tome, trying to piece together an archeological puzzle that she knows, once solved, will be one of the greatest contributions to historical knowledge known to dragonkind.
